>>We don´t have a SAN today so this seems a easy way to start up with VM. Any thoughts?

We have similar configuration
We run Microsoft Virtual server 2005 on BL480 (2*quadcore and 24 Gb RAM) and SB40 connected to BL480

We recently bought a c3000 with some 460c-servers. I
was wondering if it´s possible
to add a sb40 to one 460c and run as ESX-server
and then put some guests on the sb40.
I have one 460 with two quadcore cpu and 8GB
ram. The sb40 would be fitted with 6x72GB 15k
in raid 10. That should host a couple of
servers for me I was thinking.

We don´t have a SAN today so this seems a easy way to start up with VM. Any thoughts?

Hmm, interesting. It's not exactly answer to the question, I am just wondering what model are your quadcore CPUs?

I'll be using a 460 with 2x5430 or 2x5440
depending on the price when I order.
(this blade hasen't been ordered yet
cause my others 460 are already in production)

I'm comparing this example to a DL360
fitted with same hardware and 8 disks
to see which solution will run an ESX-
server best.

Ok, good that I asked you - Be careful, because VMware states, that only 54xx qadcores with SAME stepping will work correctly with the ESX 3.5 server.
Check this out:
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_systems_guide.pdf

Kind regards,
