topic VMware bios update error! in BladeSystem - General

Steven had a VMware update question:

***************

Hi All, I’m looking to see if anyone has seen this error when attempting to update the bios firmware for VMware 5.1. There firmware update via the Smart Component executable file is failing with an error that states the hardware does not apply to the firmware package. The hardware is indeed bl460c G8 running ESXi 5.1 hp version. Any insight would be appreciated.

******************

Input from Kim:

***************

Here is a note from the component metadata:

IMPORTANT: This component requires that the CRU driver be loaded before the component can run. Moreover, there is a minimum version requirement for the CRU driver.

Also,

To update firmware from VMware ESXi operating system on target server:

§ Enable Tech Support Mode on the ESXi host.

§ Login as root. (You must be root in order to apply the ROM update.)

§ Place the Smart Component in a temporary directory.

§ From the same directory, execute the Smart Component. For example: ./CPXXXXXX.scexe

§ Follow the directions given by the Smart Component.

§ Disable Tech Support Mode on the ESXi host

§ If required, reboot your system for the update to take effect immediately.

******************

Comments or help?
