ProLiant BL460c Gen8 : Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Restarted.

Hi Experts,

I have HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8 which has suddenly shutdown. I have powered on the system and now its working fine. The loast error messages in ILO before shutdown are

Server power removed.

Embedded Flash/SD-CARD: Restarted.

System details are as follows

Product Name : ProLiant BL460c Gen8

System ROM : I31

System ROM Date : 2/10/2014

Integrated Remote Console : .NET Java License Type iLO 4 Advanced for BladeSystem

iLO Firmware Version : 2.00 Jul 30 2014

Can you kindly suggest what is the reason of such error? I have checked and there is no removebale device attached to the blade.

Update your iLO firmware. Improvements were made to the handling of these messages over the past updates. While there, consider updating the BIOS ROM firmware as well.

There is nothing wrong with those messages. iLO is just telling you that the host has powered off. On the other hand, was there anything added to the IML log at the time of the shutdown incident?

This said, I would recommend you to upgrade ROM BIOS I31 to the latest version 2015.06.01. This way, you can rule out the known unexpected shutdown issue mentioned in the BIOS Revision History.

Also, I would recommend you to upgrade iLO4 firmware to the latest version 2.44. There have been very important fixes added to iLO4 since version 2.00

We're having what sounds like the same issue with ProLiant DL360 Gen10 servers, yesterday one of our hypervisors rebooted itself, and today it happened again, on 2 servers this time. We installed the latest SPP last month before taking the servers intop production, the firmware is on "iLO Firmware Version 1.35 Aug 14 2018"

In the iLO logs we get the following messages each time:

2167 Server power restored. 11/13/2018 04:19:40 1 Maintenance, Administration
2166 Server reset. 11/13/2018 04:19:40 1 Maintenance, Administration
2165 Server power removed. 11/13/2018 04:19:36 1 Maintenance, Administration
2164 Power on request received by: Automatic Power Recovery. 11/13/2018 04:19:34 1 Maintenance, Administration
2163 Server power restored. 11/13/2018 04:19:18 1 Maintenance, Administration
2162 Server reset. 11/13/2018 04:19:18 1 Maintenance, Administration
2161 Server power removed. 11/13/2018 04:19:17 1 Maintenance, Administration
2160 Embedded Flash: Restarted 11/13/2018 04:19:09 1 Firmware

I am seeing this issue with a DL360 Gen 10 server as well. The current ILO firmware version is 1.39 Dec 05 2018. This has occurred twice, and restarts the entire server at the hardware level. I see the same sequence of events in the IML, the "Embedded Flash Restarted" message occurs between 5 and 10 seconds before the "Server power removed" message. I'm not finding any other reference to this issue except for older 2016 Blade references.

Initially upgrade your ILO firmware to ilo4_270.bin

Then download SPP P03093_001_spp-Gen8.1-SPPGen81.4.iso

and SPP P11740_001_spp-2018.11.0-SPP2018110.2018_1114.38.iso

Boot your server from the ISO P03093_001_spp-Gen8.1-SPPGen81.4.iso upgrading the firmware

Then boot the server from ISO SPP P11740_001_spp-2018.11.0-SPP2018110.2018_1114.38.iso upgrading the firmware.

This essentially gets your Gen 8 to the latest and greatest firmware levels.
