BL460c Gen9 & QMH2572 8Gb HBA - Are they compatible?

Hi everybody!

Are BL460c Gen9 and HBA QMH2572 8Gb compatible?

I have c7000 Enclosure with 4Gb BladeSystem c-Class Fibre Channel interconnect. This 4Gb interconnect isn't compatible with HBA QMH2672 16Gb so I can use only 8Gb adapters.

Both HBA (8Gb and 16Gb) are Type A mezzanine cards. And QMH2672 16Gb is compatible with BL460c Gen8 & Gen9 blade servers, as stated in the HP Quickspec.

But sales guys say that QMH2572 8Gb is compatible only with Gen8, not Gen9 servers. Why?

Is it true?

Suman_1978 gave very good information, the HP QMH2672 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter and the HP QMH2572 8Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter are both available through HP. HP is working to enable 8Gb Fibre Channel support on these HBAs for Gen9 servers and hopefully have that this summer.

I am happy to get you in touch with the correct HP Sales Representative to go over Fibrechannel host bus adapters, let me know if you would like to go in that direction.

Do I understand correctly that this 8GB HBA can be installed in BL460c Gen9 and it will work fine, but at the moment not all the official tests are completed? And so this configuration is not yet officially supported?

Just earlier this adapter was available as an option in the Configure-to-order Gen9 Blade Server wizard on the HP website. But later, this option has been withdrawn from there.

A small correction:
HP QMH2672 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter is compatible with Gen8 and Gen9 series. Not only with Gen8.

Duly noted and you are totally correct on this, the HP QMH2672 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter is compatible with the HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8 and Gen9.

I received information from Mosсow HP office that BL460c Gen9 will be compatible with follow HBA FC adapters from June 1, 2015:

• Emulex LPe1205A 8Gb (659818-B21)
• QHM2572 8Gb (651281-B21)

So, we are waiting QuickSpec changes now.

ANyone that comes here looking, i actually bought this card with Gen9. Drivers install fine under both windows 2012 and 2012 R2. But fails to present LUNs to OS. Qlogic utility can see the LUNs fine.

HP support was absolutely not helpful. They are asking me to contact Microsoft. I know this is going to be a nightmare.

I am hoping a better server hardware company pops-up soon so that we all can have harware from one company that actually works together for a change and all information is available without having to guess and go through forums. But, for now, either stay away from gen9 servers or these cards. They just dont work.
