Yes, i have EBIPA set for all blades. Yet the iLO looses its configuration like the Administrator password and the iLO hostname. Today i noticed that for that blade (which has a SB40c as partner device) it also looses the boot controller order. Might that be a hint what's wrong?

Hello community,

perhaps you have some ideas why this happens?

After switching off and turning the power on again for a c7000 enclosure the iLO configuration of 4 of 8 BL460c G6 blades is gone. This happens at every powercycle of the enclosure. The other 4 blades remember their iLO configuration.

Do you know ehere the iLO configuration is stored and if the configuration storage is battery powered and would i have to replace the battery? Or does anyone have a different explanation for this?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Best regards,

Tom

Did you check if the slot in the C7000 has EBIPA set ? (Enclosure Bay IP Addressing)

You can define all IP settings per slot in the OA configuration or set that function off for each slot. If EBIPA is active it will override the settings you made locally on the blade.

Well that sounds like something is broken. In such a case I would set the iLO to factory defaults first, then update the iLO firmware, set your own password. If it still loses the information there is something wrong with that iLO flash memory chip (or something else). So you probably need a new mainboard.

Have you tried the blade in another slot? I mean just to see if it's an blade problem or the enclosure.

I had several DL380 G8 where the iLO stopped working. I replaced the flash chip (soldering required) and it worked again. Seems these chips lose information sometimes. Maybe a weakness because I never hat that n other models.

I don't know if the password and other settings are also stored in this chip but it's possible.

gen8 servers have ILO4, G6 has ILO2, this is a different story.

Gen8...G6 different iLO's... I know. But the way how data is stored is certainly similar. I just wanted to point out that the flash memory could have a problem.

I'm not exactly sure what the ILO2 does.

The ILO 4 has 4GB NAND flash memory on a chip to store settings, AHS log, Intelligent Provisioning etc.

This NAND flash can get corrupted if you run firmware 2.40 or earlier - search for ILO NAND to get the advisories how to solve this (how to format the NAND).

If the BIOS settings are also gone, this might be an empty battery in your G6.

Thank you all very much for your advice. The blade does also loose the config in a different location of the enclosure. I am right now in the process of ordering a new mainboard to see if this works out. Your help is much appreciated!

I am probably not going to try replacing the chip as of now as i need some soldering experience first, but would you happen to know which flash (that stores the config) i have to replace for a 460c G6? Thanks in advance ...

Hi!

I had same problem with my BL460c G6 blades, equipped with iLO2. The problem is drained lithium battery on system board. Battery is user replaceable. Coin battery is type CR2032, casual 3V lithium coin battery. By replacing that to an new one, iLO2 remembers all configuration over power cycles.
