Hello,
I can't upgrade the firmware of the BL460cG6 Power Management Controller. The error message:
"The software is not supported for installation on this system."

"Unable to communicate with the Power Management Controller. You may be able to correct this problem by cycling power. You must physically disconnect all power, not just press the power button. If this is a blade server, you must remove and reinsert the blade."

I tried remove/reinsert again, again, again ..... but ......

This clustre using 64 units. 50 units are success, 14 units are failed. The motherboard(P/N: 531221-001) of these 14 unis are Rev. 'A09'. Another group(can upgarde PMC f/w) has Rev. 'B03' motherboard.

How can I upgrade the firmware...?

Hi Tadanori,

With regard to Power management controller, if you are ready to accept the and deal with following 5 issues mentioned in the attached advisory then you can surely ignore the message related to PMC and continue working on the blade server.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01668472&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

This is how we thank in the forum

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33

Hajimemashite!

Please re-read the advisory carefully the solution is given ***here***:

RESOLUTION
To prevent the issues described above from occurring, HP is requiring affected HP ProLiant c-Class server blades running Power Management Controller Firmware Version 0.7 to be immediately upgraded to Power Management Controller Firmware Version 3.4B (or later).

IMPORTANT: The Power Management Controller Firmware Version 3.4B flash update components require iLO 2 Firmware Version 1.78 (or later) to be installed on the server before attempting to update the Power Management Controller Firmware. If an iLO 2 firmware version prior to revision 1.78 is installed on the server, the iLO 2 firmware MUST be updated first.

Perform the following steps to obtain the latest iLO 2 firmware version:

Click on the following URL:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Type "iLO 2" in the product box and then press the ENTER key.
Click on "HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO 2) Firmware."
Select the appropriate operating system.
Click on Firmware - Lights-Out Management .
Locate Firmware Version 1.78 (or later) and then choose the desired firmware upgrade method.
To upgrade to the latest Power Management Controller Firmware, perform the following:

************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
IMPORTANT: Due to the issue with version 0.7 of the Power Management Controller firmware, it is possible that an attempt to update the firmware may fail and the following message may be displayed:

The software is not supported for installation on this system.

Unable to communicate with the Power Management Controller.
You may be able to correct this problem by cycling power. You must
physically disconnect all power, not just press the power button.
If this is a blade server, you must remove and reinsert the blade.

If this condition occurs, the server blade must be removed and reinserted into the enclosure. Pressing the power button is not sufficient. Although extremely rare, it may be necessary to remove and reinsert the server blade two or three times, until the above message is no longer displayed when updating the firmware.

Click on the following URL:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Type in the name of the appropriate ProLiant server or ProLiant server blade.
Select the appropriate operating system.
Select the Firmware category.
Select version 3.4B (or later) of the Power Management Controller Firmware and click the "Download" button.
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01668472&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

My apologies, I didn't read your post carefully enough, you already followed up on the advisory.

I would advice you to raise a call at HP to replace the systemboards or have the fw repaired by a hardcore engineer.
