switches fault in IMC ?

Hello,

i have switch showing fault fan failure but i can't see the fault in IMC, i want configure IMC to show any switch hardware fault, any help ?

Are you able to see anything for FAN under Alarm-->Syslog Management-->Browse Syslog

Is this command configured?

No, the command not comfigure in the switch, do i need this command to work ? can't the switch use SNMPv3 ? we already configure all switch with snmpv3.

Yes, you have to apply the command.

Most of the devices supports snmpv3.

What is your device poduct number 'JXXXXX' and current running osftware version?

Hello there,

you can use either Syslog or a trap. In both case you will need to configure switch and iMC

1. When using a trap:

- first make sure that your switch is configured to send traps to iMC server , In Procurve the command is: Switch 2810-24G(config)#snmp-server host x.x.x.x communityStr
[ communityStr = the community string ]

- than make sure that iMC receives and recognizes the traps. Check the browse trap option under Alarm-Trap management in iMC web Gui .. If the trap is not recognized you might need to put a new trap definition in Trap definitions with the correct OID, which is sent by the device , when the fan fails.

- than you wil need to create a Trap to Alarm rule in iMC matching the trap definition with an alarm rule and the conditions when to create the alarm (Alarm-Trap management-Trap to Alarm).

- when testing this , please have in mind that there are some predifined filtering rules (Alarms-Trap Management-Filtering traps) and duplicated trap filter is on by default, you will need to switch it off , when testing.

2. When using syslog.

- First you will need to configure switch to send its syslog to iMC server with the command for example for Procurve: logging syslog-ip-addr. If you use Comware or another model , check the command.

- Than you need to make sure syslog is received by iMC server under Alarms -Syslog management -browse syslog

- than you will need to create a Syslog-to-alarm rule to force iMC to create an alarm , by receiving this syslog event and also you might configure some more conditions (Alarms-Syslog Management- Syslog to Alarm)

- please make sure that trap filtering rule is not blocking the syslog, it is also valid for syslogs.

- please also be advised that info level alarms are unchecked by default under Alarm-Alarm browse- All alarms and you will need to check the box every time if you decide to use such info level alarms ,.

i can see trap definition for fan in IMC, i think i need to do Trap to Alarm rule in iMC matching the trap definition i will tray it and see if it work

Yes, indeed ,in this case you can create a trap-to-alarm rule.This is described on page 659 in this manuall
