Difference between Format 1 and Format 2 files

Hi ,

There was detail about the "difference between Format 1 and Format 2" files for Nonstop systems in old knowledge base.Please can i get the detailed explaination about this again either a fresh explanation or taken from the old knowledge base.How do we assign the maxextents and how do we know ,what is the maxextents we can increase.
