HP VAN SDN 2.0 Installation

Hi,

I have two HP 2920 switches with firmware version 15.14. I would like to control them using HP VAN SDN 2.0 and OpenFlow version 1.3. According to the installation guide [1] I used Ubuntu LTS 12.04.3 64-Bit as OS.

However, after installation (with two issues, see below), many services are not working, even though the sdnc process is up.

1. According to the switches the controller is disconnected.

2. I can log into /sdn/ui/ with a browser but after login it shows SDN Controller Service Unavailable.

3. When using the /api interface only a few services are available, e.g. /auth. Most services are unavailable, though, and return error messages like

"error": "com.hp.api.ServiceNotFoundException", "message": "Missing com.hp.sdn.nodemgr.NodeService, unable to process request"

During installation I had two issues.

1. The installation manual tells you to use HP VAN SDN version 2.0.1.4254 or greater for installation. However, the latest version available for download was only 2.0.0.4253.

2. Ubuntu 12.04.3 comes with keystone version 1.3. However keystone Version 2.X+ is required by HP VAN SDN 2.0. So I had to install keystone 2.4 manually.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you!

Frank

[1] HP VAN SDN Controller Installation Guide, Published: December 2013, Edition: 1, Revision 2

The installation guide tells you to add some OpenStack repo to apt, which contains the following version of Keystone: 2012.2.4-0ubuntu3.1~cloud0. Have you done that? Have you installed the other requirements like postgresql?

Hi sepbot,

You're right. After adding the repo to apt the correct version of keystone is installed automatically. First I installed the required version of keystone manually. I have installed all other requirements.

The main issue that the controller/services are not working still remains, though.

Thanks for your suggestion!
