1. I notice there is a snapshot left by SimpliVity backup for a week already. Is it safe to delete it? Or is there a official method to do this from SimpliVity command?

2. For offsite backup, I realize that I am not able to restore it immediately despite vCenter show that the backup is completed, because the backup file is still copying over the WAN to the offsite. Is there a faster way to find out when is the copy job completed? Or I am able to refresh it without having to keep closing the dialog box and enter back again to the search backups dialog box just to see the updated status from saving to complete?

There is no error message to begin with. And with an existing snapshot, there will be some snapshot files inside. Can we just delete snapshot file without getting vCenter to perform consolidation first?

When the backup is finished it changes to "Protected" status, this is how you know it is complete. Also, vCenter tasks shows also information about the backup task. If this was an application consistent backup, the snapshot is removed once the backup is completed.

Unfortunately to check the "protected" status, I have to navigate into the search backup page to see this. Moreover, this page does not refresh itself and I have to close it and re-navigate back to the same page just to see the updated status to check if it is reflecting "protected" status. Is there a faster way to navigate to check this or to refresh the status?

vCenter task status is completely useless, because it will shows backup completed within few seconds, but the "protected" status will take hours despite vCenter claims that the backup is already completed.

Please fix this status issue.

There's no need to exit out of the backup window to refresh status. To refresh, click on the blue circular arrow located to the left of the screen, next to "Backup Actions", that will refresh the query and status of the backups.

SimpliVity VM Backup Snapshot Failure

@gustenar

Hi, whenever I see this alert, I go and check the backups of this VM. One backup is in protected state and the subsequent backup shows failed. Both the timestamps is same. I tried taking a manual backup, it failed. I got the error "Backup creation failed.". I am using admin credentials only. But I want to add one point here. Where I see "SimpliVity VM Backup Snapshot Failure" alert, under this, I see another alert "A newer version of VMware Tools is available for this virtual machine.". I have seen these two combination alerts for multiple VMs. But, it doesn't mean that the backups are failing. The backup is successful and at the same timestamp, it says "Failed". Please let me know what is causing the issue.
