Hi,

we recently expanded our existing federation. Now it consists of 6 hosts evenly distributed between two racks. There are now also 6 compute nodes so the final situation consists of 3 OVCs and 3 compute nodes per rack in a 1:1 mapping. Our idea now was to create a stretched cluster so the active and passive copies are distributed between the racks. Since svt-zone-assign allows only OVC Hosts, our question now is, how IWO reacts to this. The best situation would be that the VMs run inside their zone to prevent additional hops over the switches. We did not find any documentation about this. Has someone experience with this setup?

thanks

Hi l_lang

Hope you are doing well.

IWO (Intelligent Workload Optimizer) only considers OVC nodes, not compute nodes. I assume that your compute nodes are running VMs where the data is located in a SimpliVity datastore and that is fine. In a stretched cluster environment, as long as you make sure that the copies are balanced to the other zone, then you would be fine. You can check that DRS and the affinity rules are properly configured.

Hope this helps.!!

Regards
Mahesh
