All the information comes from the MSM765 AFAIK - no option to configure snmp for each AP. I use IMC and I do get traps when the number of users on an individual AP exceeds a threshold, so it should be possible.

We have 50+ MSM 410 in the network. Currently we are using PRTG to monitor all network devices including MSM765 and all managed APs. PRTG auto discovery only detected some simple sensor such as traffic in/out in the wireless port (pic. attached). We are trying configure SNMP for MSM 410 AP to monitor number of connected user in the particular AP, but no idea how to configure it.

I tried to add custom SNMP OID from the following link:

https://community.hpe.com/t5/M-and-MSM-Series/Monitoring-MSM-system-metrics-with-SNMP-MRTG/m-p/5566267/highlight/true#M794

coDeviceWirelessClientStatusGroup
MIB COLUBRIS-DEVICE-WIRELESS-MIB
Oid 1.3.6.1.4.1.8744.5.25.1.7.2.0

Its only displaying number of connected users for all APs managed by MSM765.

Questions:

1. Is it possible to monitor number of connected wireless client in every single AP? It will be great if someone can share how to do it and OID list.

2. Do we need to configure SNMP in every single AP? If Yes how to configure it?

Regards,

Andi

Hi Neil,

Desperate with PRTG custom SNMP OID/MIB, then I tried to evaluate another network monitoring Tools called Solarwind. With Solarwind, currently I able to manage every single access point managed by MSM 7xx, usage history, traffic monitoring for every single connected client with a single dashboard. (screenshot attached). Thanks

@NeilR wrote:

All the information comes from the MSM765 AFAIK - no option to configure snmp for each AP.

For the second question:

You don't configure SNMP in teh APs, only on the controller. In a controller environment the only management allowed for the APs is via the controller. No GUI, no CLI, no SNMP.

I don't think per-AP user amounts are available via SNMP at all. If I'll figure out a way I'll let you know.
