what is the difference between the e-msm460 and the msm460 (if any), and which should i use for autonomous mode setups?

Both E-MSM460 & MSM460 are same products based on the product numbers.

E-MSM460 - J9591A (WW), J9590A (AM), J9589A (JP), J9618A (IL)

MSM460 - J9591A (WW), J9590A (AM), J9589A (JP), J9618A (IL), J9655A (TAA)

I guess the difference is that initially the procurve devices were called as E-Series products, and Comware models are called as A-Series. Currently there is no such difference.

Yes, this can be confirmed as Autonomous mode. You may refer the below URLs.
