3PAR virtual volume shows 80% space used, whereas datastore shows around 57% used space.

Hi All,

3PAR virtual volume shows 80% space used out of 2TB, whereas datastore shows around only 57% used space.

datastore is being used to save a critical database backups with a retention period of 2days.

Will server level defragmentation resolve this?

is there any defragmentation that can be done on 3PAR?

Hi,

How you have deployed your Virtual Volume?

What RAID level and which provisioning technology did you choose?

Do review this doc:

and try this maybe.

To reclaim unused storage blocks on a vSphere 5.5 VMFS datastore for a thin-provisioned device, run the command: # esxcli storage vmfs unmap -l volume_label | -u volume_uuid [-n number]

It should if thin provisioned.

No, the array has no idea what's free on the filesystem.
