4-node 3par zoning

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the zoning in 4-node StoreServ scenario. The bellow figure shows a host with two HBAs connects to a 4-node 3par StoreServ.

So, if using single initiator-> single target zoning. I believe it is pretty easy that I can create four zones per fabric.

Fabric1:

zone1: port1, 0:1:1;

zone2: port1, 1:1:1;

zone3: port1, 2:1:1;

zone4: port1, 3:1:1

The same zoning in Fabric2.

If using single initiator-> multi targets zoning, which configuration is recommended?

put all the targets into one zone like (port1, 0:1:1, 1:1:1, 2:1:1, 3:1:1) or seperate the targets by the node-pair into two zones like (port1, 0:1:1, 1:1:1,) & (port1, 2:1:1, 3:1:1))

Thanks for the answers!

Re: 4-node 3par zoning

Hi,

Both ways are also allowed. If you put all targets in one zone with the initiator, you have less zones to manage.

You didn't mention which SAN you're using, but if it's Brocade then have a look at this:

http://www.brocade.com/content/dam/common/documents/content-types/whitepaper/san-admin-best-practices-bp.pdf

Also the 3PAR best practices which also recommends zoning the initiator to multiple targets.

Alternatively, you can also consider Smart SAN and forget about all these manual zoning.

Re: 4-node 3par zoning

Hello @Mac0li

Farbric.JPG

For 2 node 3PAR,

Fabric 1:
Zone 1 - Port1,0:1:1
Zone 2 - Port1,1:1:1

Fabric 2:
Zone 1 - Port2,0:1:2
Zone 2 - Port2,1:1:2

Can you please provide more details about your other query (connecting two blades to two 3pars having one HBA)?
The only HBA connected to which system? Do you mean both 3PARs have 1 HBA each?
