How do repalce 12 disks (300GB) to 12 disks (600GB) in the SS7K?

There are two cpg in the SS7200. One cpg name is 300GB_cpg. another cpg name is 1TB_cpg.

300GB_CPG has 12 disks ( 300GB) . I want to replace the 12 disks (300GB) to the 12 disks( 600GB).

would you please how do replace them without risk?

Hi,

You don't replace disks in a CPG, you have to create a new CPG (if you follow the naming convention it would be 600GB_cpg) with the 12 new 600GB disks.

Once created you have to move the volumes from the 300GB_cpg to the new 600GB_cpg. This can be done through Tune Volume action... You need a Dynamic Optimization license for this.

Thanks for your answer.

There aren't empty slots for 12 *600GB disk. and No DO license.

Then this will be 'a challenge'... You can try to replace the disks 1 by 1 and give them the time to rebuild, but at the end you will still have the size of 300GB per disk... You will need to run the TuneSys action afterwards to create the additional space...

Other option will be backup and restore...

Thanks a lot.

But I have a litte concerned about your advice. Too long time for this method.

I hope, there is other simple method.  but it seems difficult realize .

There aren't empty slots for 12 *600GB disk. and No DO license.

I would buy a new shelf, that does not cost much money and no License is needed

Then create new volumes and migrate the data on server side (eg. ESX Storage migration ) .

What HP 3PAR OS version do you have?
The proper command is servicemag.  I think you can do 4 or 5 at once.

>There aren't empty slots for 12 * 600 GB disk.

How many empty slots do you have?  They could be used as a faster way than servicemag.

>but at the end you will still have the size of 300 GB per disk.

No, disks are composed of chunklets.  You will have ~300 GB of data and ~300 GB of free chunklets to use.

>there is other simple method.

Why kind of method did you have in mind?

Correct you would have 300 chunklets and 300 of free space. I assume he wants to have all 600GB available so he will need to run the Tune action and so he needs the license to do that...

>Add a new shelf to have more slots?

Watch out with the licenses... Up to 48 disks there are licenses based on the amount of disks in the 3PAR. From 48 disks on there is a cap where you don't have to take this into accoutn anymore...

You mean copy the 12 * 300 GB to 6 * 600 GB plus 6 * 600 GB free?

I'm not sure you would want to do that.

@Dennis

He wants to replace 12 x 300GB with 12 x 600GB, probably to have more space available... If he just replaces the 300 with 600 disks, he wont have more chunklets and so no more space available... Just the disks replaced but no more added value...
