How to connect 3PAR 7200 to Cisco Catalyst 4507E via optical cable

Hello,

how to connect 3PAR 7200 to Cisco Catalyst 4507E via optical cable? I'm interested in multi-vendor transceiver compatibility?

On 3PAR 7200 installed these transceivers (see attachment)

On Catalyst 4507E side which type of transceivers should I use?

Re: How to connect 3PAR 7200 to Cisco Catalyst 4507E via optical cable

There is no interaction between the SFP <> Cable <> SFP.

Use the 3PAR SFP on 3PAR side and the CISCO SFP on CISCO Side.

Do not try to use CISCO SFP in 3PAR or v.v.

But the Main thing is, that your 3PAR here is talking Fibre Channel Protokoll (8GB) and the Catalyst is a 1/10GB Ethernet Switch.

Even if changing the SFPs, there is no way to bring it together.

You need Fibre Channel Switches.

Hello,

Is there a way to connect the two systems to each other?

You can buy and insert 2x 10GB iSCSI Adapter.

HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 2-port 10Gb/sec iSCSI/FCoE Adapter QR487A

Or do you need only File Services?

Sorry, I do not have any experience working with FiberChannel and Datacenter technologies.

If I understood you correctly, then I can buy and insert 2x 10GB iSCSI Adapter into Catalyst switch and

insert HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 2-port 10Gb/sec iSCSI/FCoE Adapter QR487A into 3PAR.

After this data from 3PAR can be accessed from servers or hosts connected to Ethernet switch.

For the Catalyst you can use a standard 10GB Ehternet Port.
May be you have already one in there.

iSCSI uses Standard Ethernet LAN.
