P10000 3Par V400 to V800 upgrade?

Hi,

Does anyone know whether there is an upgrade path from  V400 to V800?

Hi There,

It all depends whether you purchased a P10400(old), P10400(new) or P10800 system, event though you may only have 4 operational nodes at the moment. If the system was P10800, then you may easily upgrade.

If its a V400 chassis, you cannot simply add additional 4 nodes and conver to V800. For that you need purchase a V800 chassis. On the other hand if your chassis is already V800, then you can mount 4 additional nodes and re-arrange the backend cabling. You might also require an OS upgrade.

Thank you Nirupak for the reply.

Its a V400 chassis. Is there any document that tell the procedure to upgrade this.

Grateful to the experts for their prompt response.

A V400 cannot exceed 4 nodes, backplane allows for only 4.  A V800 can have from 2-8 nodes and can have controllers added.  If you have a V400 as explained you cannot upgrade to more than 4 nodes.

Re: P10000 3Par V400 to V800 upgrade?

Hi Cristin,

I dont think you have free slots in the V400 chassis. So the next option available to upgrade is to get a V800 chassis. Actually both these chassis have different part numbers, to differentiate between 4(max) or 8(max) nodes.

There used to be document called HP P10000 3PAR Storage System Upgrade Guide, but i supose that is not available in public domain anymore. In case you wish to upgradeV400 to V800, you may log an upgrade request through your support contract or if oyu have an account support manager (ASM) aligned to your account, you may approach the person.

I dont believe upgrade process can be done by standalone customers without HPE support. However please get this verified through your support contract.

One thing that is probably worth reminding you about 3PAR Federation with Peer Motion.  I have a demo you can check out on it:

After watching the video, if you have questions, let me know.
