I want to upgrade my 3PAR tot the latest firmware (3.3.1) but I'm stuck in a catch 22.
We're currently running 3.2.2 MU4 with Hyper-V VSP 4.4
When I use the latest VSP 5.0 for Hyper-V and try to upgrade to 3.3.1 it says that the firmware needs to be 3.3.1 or higher. When we try to upgrade the firmware with Hyper-V VSP 4.4 it says we need SP 5.0 or higher!
I have loaded U009 into the VSP 4.4.
I also read that you first need to upgrade to SP 4.5, but there's no VSP 4.5 (only for physical Service Processor)
How can I upgrade to 3.3.1? I'm lost here.

Yes, you need to upgrade to a newer SP 4.x and then the process of upgrades needs SP 5.x.
Not sure why you can't get 4.5 for VSP.

The designation on the download for the SP should only matter for rebuilds, the 4.5 physical should be fine for you to upgrade from 4.4 to 4.5 even if it is a vsp.
Should call in and have support assist you, there are many checks that they perform to help prevent issues.

Re: Upgrade 3PAR to 3.3.1 (how hard can it be?)
Ok, I have tried to upgrade to 4.5, but it gives me an error saying that 3parcust hasn't enough permission to upgrade.

It says:
ERROR Upgrade from current SP version SP-4.4.0 to SP version 4.5.0 is not supported for user 3parcust

Re: Upgrade 3PAR to 3.3.1 (how hard can it be?)
Thank you for this, but perhaps it is something I have overlooked.
It's strange that the 3PARCUST has not sufficient rights. Any input here on the forum is wellcome.

Re: Upgrade 3PAR to 3.3.1 (how hard can it be?)
If you are inexperienced with the Process and even did not read the Manual than it is better to let HPE do the Update.
If you read the Manual, you will notice that you need 4.5 and the Update can not be done with the GUI and you need a higher priv. User (spvar for example).
This Update is a major Step and not as easy as the Past.

To which manual are you referring?
I have read the release notes and user guides

Re: Upgrade 3PAR to 3.3.1 (how hard can it be?)
From "HPE 3PAR Service Processor Software 5.0 Release Notes"
This release is supported with the HPE 3PAR Operating System version 3.3.1.
Upgrading from SP 4.5 to 5.0 is supported through SPMAINT only, and the upgrade must be performed by HPE service personnel.
From "3par storeserv upgrade matrix" (SPOCK)
Upgrade to SP 4.5 MU1 > Upgrade to 3.3.1 MU1 > Upgrade to SP 5.0.1 with latest patch
