new disk compatibility

Hi

I have failed disk on 3par storage, and I already bought new disk as replacement from different vendor, how i can know the new disk compatible or suitable as replacement for failed disk?

Thanks

Re: new disk compatibility

only HPE drives will work. the array firmware must be aware of the disk model and has the appropriate disk firmware version

Hope this helps!

Re: new disk compatibility

Is that mean the disk should to be from hpe to work, other vendor than hpe will not work?
How I can know if array firmware aware about new disk, in my case the new disk I have, how I can know if it will work or not

Re: new disk compatibility

So in future, If I need to order new disk for old one through online, how I make sure the disk that I need to buy online is suitable as replacement for old disk?
Is there SN, PN..etc or other details need to check??

Thx

Re: new disk compatibility

As mentioned by @Torsten. the model has to appear in the output of showfirmwaredb.

Re: new disk compatibility

Hi

I found new disk Dev_Id mentioned in list "showfirmwaredb" , but with Cage_type: DC4, the current  Cage_type: DC3, so is that will cause issue, or it will work smoothly;

Thanks

Re: new disk compatibility

So in my case what I have to do, if new disk show in firmwaredb but with current DC4, and failed disk show in GUI with DC3?

Re: new disk compatibility

Lookup the spare partno of the failed drive at partsurfer.hpe.com.

Example:

697389-001

result

900GB SAS hard drive - 10,000 RPM, 2.5-inch small form factor (SFF), 6Gb/s transfer rate, 3PAR drive model HCBRE0900GBAS10K - Preferred spare part is 840457-001, ensure minimum OS is met - See advisory a00025786en_us - For use with 3PAR StoreServ 7000

So 697389-001 was meanwhile replaced by 840457-001, this drive is compatible with 3PAR7000 and needs the following OS:

3.2.2+P04,
3.2.1-MU5,
3.2.1-MU4+P35,
3.2.1-MU3+P23,
3.2.1-MU2+(P62 or P78)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
