Adding additional disks to HP 3PAR 8200 installation
Dear all,
we are running a 3PAR 8200 with 3.2.2.709 (MU6) that consists of 4 2.5" enclosures and is running in a balanced configuration. The system is equipped with 2x 1.92TB SSDs and 16x 1.2TB SAS HDDs per enclosure.
We now would like to add 4 additional 1.2TB SAS HDDs to each enclosure. I have read the follwing article from HP that describes the procedure:
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00020368en_us
If I understand correctly, we just have to check the system, then add the disks evenly to the enclosures and monitor the status. Is that correct and do I still have to manually perform tunesys afterwards?
In addition to this, the article mentions the following:
Doey anyone know what exactly this means and in which way the capacity needs to be "initialized" in order to allocate it?
Thanks
Michael

Re: Adding additional disks to HP 3PAR 8200 installation
Hi
I think drives should be added in pairs to each enclosure
also after you add the drives you run from CLI "admithw"
some times it is done automaticly by the system
but you can always run it the system checks if the new drivres need firmware
upgrade and will do that.
after the drives apear normal and you run "checkhealth -svc"
to see everything is OK.
you need to run "tunesys" to distribute data evenly accross all drives
this can be done in the weekend.
it add abpout 10% load on the system.
Regards

On some system models this will be done automatically. There should be a task started that you can monitor.

Basically chunklets must be zeroed (initialized) before they can be used.

Thanks for your replies. Is the zeroization an automatic process or does it have to be triggered manually?

Re: Adding additional disks to HPE 3PAR 8200 installation
Once the new physical disks are successfully admitted to the system, initialization of the chunklets is automatic. Use the "showpd -c" command to see how many uninitialized chunklets remain on each disk.
