Labs photonics researchers win best paper award
Along with his co-authors, Hewlett Packard Labs researcher Yuan Yuan was awarded the Best Paper Award in Industry Innovation at Octoberโs Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, the largest optical conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Yuan works in Labsโ Large-Scale Integrated Photonics (LSIP) group.
The paper, โA 4ร100 Gb/s DWDM Optical Link with All-Silicon Microring Transmitters and Receivers,โ proves the feasibility of an all-Silicon, Germanium-free, high-speed dense wavelength division multiplexing optical link. The paper proposes a 4-channel 100 Gb/s microring modulator array and a 100 Gb/s microring photodiode.
โThe ACP best paper award in industry innovation is an incentive for us, which shows that the all-Si DWDM architecture is a potential solution for high-speed, low-cost optical interconnects with standard Si photonics process,โ says Yuan. โAnd LSIP is an industry pioneer in Si photonics and heterogeneous III-V integration. The efforts and collaboration of the entire lab members are key of this research work!โ
The paper was co-authored with Labsโ Wayne V. Sorin, Stanley Cheung, Yiwei Peng, Zhihong Huang, Di Liang, Marco Fiorentino, and Raymond G. Beausoleil.
โI was very happy to see Yuanโs work, and that of his teammates, recognized on such an important stage,โ says his team lead and Labs distinguished technologist Marco Fiorentino. โIt is a demonstration that the work we do at Labs is not only relevant for the growth of the company and HPEโs customers but also advances the state of the art in photonics technologies.โ
