In the past several years, we at Hewlett Packard Labs did not leave off our investigations of computing and the physical world that supports it for a minute. The story of Hewlett Packard Labs at HPE Discover in Las Vegas is the story of the innovations we continue to bring in AI, including the not-inconsequential issue of trust. We will also feature technologies that were born and developed in Labs and moved into HPE business groups to facilitate global access. HPE Swarm Learning, for instance, is an AI solution that helps accelerate insights on the edge.

The sessions and demos below explore our work and the technologies we have developed and have contributed to the work of others in HPE’s business groups.

SESSIONS

HPE is committed to the responsible, ethical development and deployment of AI to advance the way we live and work (BB5029)

Date and time: Wednesday, June 29, 1:30 – 2:00 p.m.

Presenters: Kirk Bresniker and Eric Schweiker

Abstract: AI holds the potential to solve some of society’s biggest, most pressing challenges, but also presents risks and can adversely impact society. HPE has developed a set of AI Ethical Principles to guide how we use and develop responsible AI to produce beneficial outcomes for people, businesses, and public services. Come learn how HPE is efficiently and effectively putting these principles into practice; identifying and mitigating risks before the technology is put into use.

Hewlett Packard Labs driving Trustworthy AI in a data-first modernization (T5001)

Date and time: Wednesday, June 29, 3:00 – 3:30 p.m.

Presenter: Paolo Faraboschi

Abstract: Building an AI you can trust is becoming increasingly important, as AI moves into critical areas such as engineering, science, financial services, and health. In all these applications, AI influences decisions that have significant effects on people’s lives. At Labs, we are pushing trustworthiness to the next generation of AI. Join this session to learn about the importance of embedding key principles that enforces ethical and inclusive decisions in AI designs and models, and how we are building AI systems you can trust.

Carnegie Clean Energy and Hewlett Packard Labs Revolutionizing Wave Power with Trustworthy AI (TB5002)

Date and time: Wednesday, June 29, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m.

Presenter: Soumyendu Sarkar

Abstract: The unpredictable nature of waves and the extremes of an ocean environment make designing an optimum energy-capture device a complex challenge. Join Labs and Carnegie Clean Energy to learn about developing a self-learning wave energy converter using reinforcement learning technology – pushing trustworthiness to the next-generation of AI.

Harnessing the Power of AI: Learning from Every Byte Everywhere on the Edge-to-Exascale Continuum (LS5255)

Date and time: Thursday, June 30, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Presenters: Andrew Wheeler, Kirk Bresniker, Gina Tourassi (ORNL), and Kay Firth-Butterfield (WEF)

Abstract: At Hewlett Packard Labs, we work with scientific and industrial facilities to realize edge-to-exascale and breakthroughs in pervasive AI with extreme efficiency, sustainability, and trust. Hear from leaders at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the World Economic Forum on how we can raise the aspirations of scientists to adopt broader edge-to-exascale applications that shape the way we live and work.

DEMOS

Hewlett Packard Labs Driving Trustworthy AI in the Age of Insight (DEMO533)

Abstract: Building an AI you can trust is becoming increasingly important, as it moves into critical applications in areas such as engineering, science, financial services, and health. In all these applications, AI influences decisions that have a significant effect on people’s lives. At Labs, we are pushing trustworthiness to the next generation of AI. See our technology in action, including resilient AI models with machine learning and building a data foundation infrastructure to identify the most valuable data for AI to maximize productivity.

Carnegie Clean Energy: Harnessing Ocean Energy to Make the World More Sustainable (DEMO414)

Abstract: Carnegie Clean Energy is researching cost-effective ways to create energy from untapped, renewable sources. Using HPE supercomputers to study the rhythms of nature could unlock unlimited supplies of clean energy.

Demos Featuring Labs Technology

Connecting You to Data You Can Trust (DEMO529)

Abstract: With so much data out there, simply adding more to the system creates confusion. How do you find it, use it, manage it, and securely share it while adhering to regulatory compliance? Data consumers want to connect to data they trust so they can make the best decisions possible. Data producers need tools to share their data safely with those who need it. Visit our demo to find out how both sides can enhance sharing and collaboration, and improve governance and trust.

Manage Data Easily from Edge to Core to Cloud with the HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric (DEMO509)

Abstract: Your business runs on data, with much of this data distributed across edge locations. Whether your data is files, objects, streams, or databases and spread across edge locations, the core data center, and public clouds, the HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric helps you to modernize data infrastructure and breaks down silos. Data can freely be accessed across your entire distributed enterprise. Applications or teams can now directly access objects or files regardless of where they are located. This demo will show you how.

Bring Cloud-Like Simplicity to the Edge with Ease by Deploying Edge Clusters with HPE GreenLake (DEMO510)

Abstract: When running multiple factories, stores, hotels, or hospitals, minimizing complexity is tantamount to operational excellence. Even across multiple geographies, you can easily deploy the power of an edge computing cluster to manage your data using HPE GreenLake. This demo illustrates how it will help you deploy and centrally manage your distributed enterprise with your choice of application platforms, including HPE Ezmeral, VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, SUSE, Nutanix, and Google.

Video Analytics and AI Training at the Edge with SWARM: Managing Data and Model Pipelines in a Distributed World (DEMO423)

Abstract: Using computer vision and fun LEGO building blocks, we combine machine/swarm learning, low-power edge devices, and data pipelines. See how AI and data experts deliver real-world ML use cases to solve business problems across industries. The demo shows how data pipelines are built for analytics and models, from both the core and edge to edge. ML/AI training is distributed and linked together with swarm technologies. Results are shared and business value is delivered.

5 Ways HPE is Helping Financial Institutions use AI, ML, and Swarm Learning to Achieve Big Business Outcomes (DEMO538)

Abstract: The impact of rapidly expanding data, digital transactions, and changing financial models has opened the doors to greater fraud, financial risk, and shifting compliance rules, accelerating the need for innovative solutions required to meet this changing landscape. AI, ML, and Swarm Learning are here to combat fraud and AML, reduce risk, manage data, unveil insights, and meet compliance regulations.
