2 myths that might be preventing you from upgrading to UFT 11.5

Anonymous_User1 ‎05-07-2013 12:59 AM - edited ‎09-09-2015 03:26 PM

Some people have mentioned to me that they haven’t upgraded to UFT 11.5 yet.  They often say they don’t want to upgrade their HP Application Lifecycle Management installation, or that they don’t want to upgrade their existing QTP licenses.  But that’s fine - you don’t need to upgrade them to move to UFT 11.5!

Here are the facts:

Myth #1: To upgrade to UFT 11.5, I need to upgrade to Quality Center (QC) 11.5 or ALM 11.5 as well.

Fact: No you don’t!  UFT 11.5 works with QC 10 and ALM 11 and later.  See the Product Availability Matrix for details.

Myth #2: I need to upgrade my existing QTP or ST licenses to UFT licenses.

Fact: No you don’t!  If you are paying support on your existing licenses, you are entitled to download and use UFT 11.5, which will continue to work with your existing QTP or ST licenses.  You won’t get all of the new features and value that UFT provides , but you will continue to get the features and technologies you currently have in QTP or Service Test. Plus, you will have access to the following new features, among others:

- The new user interface

- The ability to edit more than one test and action at a time

- Continuous Integration, with the HP Application Automation Tools plugin for Jenkins

- If you have a QTP license, you get:

    - Insight, the image-based automation solution

    - The new File Content checkpoint and Bitmap checkpoint

- If you have an ST license, you get:

    - The ability to create actions, just like you can in GUI tests

    - JSON support in REST

    - SAP IDOC and RFC support

Check out the webinar which explains all of the new features that come with UFT 11.5.

"The ability to create actions, just like you can in GUI tests" .. I always thought of calling other Service Test Scripts as using Actions from Service Test as calling other actions.

Is this something else?

Hi, citizencrane.  Yes, it's a new feature with UFT 11.5.  You can now create actions within an API test (aka Service test script).  Although in practice calling an API action is the same as calling an API test, the main advantage that this offers is that you can store and maintain multiple API actions in a single API test - just as you can with GUI tests (aka QTP scripts).  This means you only have to manage a single test, which contains multiple (usually related) actions, in ALM/QC or on your local drive, instead of having to maintain a separate test for each action.
