Meeting of the ALM minds--Live from Israel

Michael-Deady ‎02-19-2014 08:48 AM - edited ‎09-18-2015 04:00 PM

שלום (Shalom)from Israel! I am here this week gathered  with people from support, R&D, Marketing, PSO, Developers, SAAS, and Product management technical teams. We are meeting this week in Tel Aviv for a knowledge transfer, product review and feedback session. This is an in-depth review of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) by people with actual real world experiences that can be measured in centuries.

Day one has been filled with anticipation, as well as some pessimism. The reality of the meeting is that HP software has filled a small room with thirty very cynical customer advocates and asked them their opinion of the newest version of ALM. We started with overview the biggest client pain points experienced in previous versions, and how HP R&D team has addressed these issues and then we took a quick look at the new features.

I personally was happy that one of the key focuses is on the complete SDLC process. At the end of the first day, the consensus is that HP has and is continuing to make ALM a focal point for IT departments that are serious about building quality applications – regardless of development methodology - with less.

This meeting offered more than  just technical information. It also included best practices, interaction and FQA. This is an amazing opportunity to have ALM questions answered—especially your questions. What would you want to see in the newest version of HP ALM? Feel free to reach out to me in the comments section below or on Twitter at @Wh4tsup_doc and I will work to get answers to you. Stay tuned for more information about the newest version of ALM and details about all the new features it offers here at the ALM blog or on the ALM homepage.

few most common ALM suggestions that I can think of:

1) performance improvement on the client side. It takes too long to login to the project

2) ability to use browsers other that IE and across platforms

3) option to have more that 99 UDF in entities (with centrailized project approach you need more fields. One of the main reasons for central approach is to have reporting in one single project because qc enterprise edition does not have cross project reporting)

4) improve dashboard reporting and make it simple to create reports without complex SQl. This will allow QC to be more reporting friendly. (There have been several improvements in QC reporting from the time of TD so its much easy now but it can be improved more)

5) have a public version of ALM available which can be accessed by anyone for limited time, say 2-3 days with a valid company email ID. This is especially helpful when trying to showcase HP ALM to someone new to the product.
