4 SMB Technology Trends for 2017

Guest blog from HPE SMB Segment Marketing

The champagne has been popped, the holidays are over, and it's time to plan 2017 sales and marketing activities.  We've identified a few key SMB trends (and suggested solutions to support them) to help guide you to a great 2017!

1. Accelerated adoption of hybrid IT
TechAisle is predicting US SMB and Midmarket hybrid cloud penetration to jump by over 100%.  Not surprising, given Hybrid IT’s benefits that specifically address SMB pain points:
- Low/no upfront capital investment
- Improved scalability
- Increased business efficiency

 What customers need:
Modern, highly virtualized IT provides the compute performance, with HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers, and high network bandwidth, with Aruba switches, which a hybrid environment requires.  For quick adoption of a hybrid IT environment, HPE offers managed hybrid IT solutions like HPE ProLiant Easy Connect to run workloads on premise while seamlessly connecting users to the cloud anytime and anywhere.

2. IoT – still for early adopters, but others are catching on
IoT penetration may potentially exceed 75% (midmarket) and 33% (small business) (TechAisle, 2016).  Additionally, existing adopters are finding unexpected benefits including:
- Increased ability to develop new products/services
- Improved controls within their businesses
_ Increased business agility and reduced costs

What customers need:
IoT drives network traffic volume, which is best supported by high performing network IT (access points and switches).   HPE resellers can sell Aruba 2530, 2920, 2930F and 3810 switches for performance, bandwidth and reliability.  In particular, the Aruba 3810 switch enables businesses to raise data rates to 2.5, 5.0, and even 10 GBs for bandwidth hungry applications

3. Big data
As more affordable business intelligence solutions continue to become available, SMBs are better able than ever to take advantage of data insights to grow their companies.

What customers need:
High performing servers and flash enabled storage lay the foundation for effective Big Data solutions.  Consider HPE ProLiant Servers, MSA 2042 and StoreVirtual 3200 storage products. For a simple, preconfigured solution, look at HPE Flex Solutions with Microsoft SQL 2016 for BI, DW and OLTP.

4. Mobility
Enabling workforce Mobile solutions are ubiquitous and SMBs continue adopt them to enable employee productivity and better customer service.

What customers need:
Visibility into wired and wireless networks, access points, and management solutions are key here.  Look at Aruba ClearPass Profiler, Aruba Instant Access Points 205/210/220/310, Aruba ClearPass Management Platform.
