Cloud First Mobile First, powered by HP Networking

By Michael Zhu

zhuv2_sm.jpgThere is a paradigm shift happening on how companies host, manage, and deliver corporate applications, and how employees and customers consume them. The mobile device explosion has fundamentally changed the way we live, work and play. The line between work and personal life has become blurred with touches on our mobile devices. Productivity objectives demand the ability to access work related applications anytime and anywhere with the same quality of service and user experience as possible in a corporate campus. One of the most effective way to increase corporate productivity are with private or public cloud environment.   This has driven many companies to implement or actively reevaluate their productivity tools strategy by leveraging Cloud-based capabilities that provide more flexible time and location benefits for users.

Corporations can make significant investments to achieve applications agility in their Cloud optimized data center, on premise or hosted in the Cloud. However, they will not be able to derive the full value of these investment unless the mobile user experience is optimized through the last-mile delivery of these applications. HP and Aruba Networks (now an HP company) have developed exactly this kind of intelligent network leveraging SDN to optimize the delivery and visibility of these Cloud-based productivity solutions.

HP and Aruba have been working closely with Microsoft to lead the industry in developing Unified Communications Software Defined Networking (UC SDN) solutions. With these innovative solutions, we are able to, dynamically program the wired and wireless network to prioritize real-time communication on a per-session basis for Microsoft Lync (or Skype for Business). This also enables the IT administrators to have the complete end-to-end view of real time voice and video call quality, and quickly troubleshoot user experiences by eliminating finger pointing between the network and applications. This solution has been deployed in many companies' live networks across the globe, including Deltion College, The Bama Companies, and MTC Australia.

We have entered the next phase of applications hosted in the Cloud. This is why many companies are evaluating and deploying Microsoft Cloud hosted applications like Office 365 and Skype for Business, and HP have developed intelligent network solutions that can optimize the delivery of these Cloud-based apps. For example, our Aruba Instant Access Points (IAP) are designed to automatically identify O365 and Skype for Business traffic, and dynamically assign QoS to optimize the user experience. All accomplished without what we call "human middleware" which dramatically simplifies IT operations. The solution works seamlessly in corporate campus, branches, and even at home for remote teleworkers.
