Customer Advisory Notice: Windows Server 2012 R2 on HPE ProLiant DL20 or ML30 Gen9 Servers
Customers running Windows Update on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 deployed on systems with Intel Xeon E3 v6 processors (HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 or HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 servers) may be getting an โUnsupported Hardwareโ error message.
A description of this error from Microsoft can be found here.
This error occurs because Intel Xeon E3 v6 (or later) processor generations require the latest Microsoft Windows Server Operating System (OS) version for support. As a result, devices that run Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 with an Intel Xeon E3 v6 generation (or later) processor may no longer be able to scan or download updates through Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
Scope: Any HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen9 server or HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 server running Windows Update on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2.
Resolution: Installation steps for systems using Windows Server 2012 R2 Operating Systems using Intel Xeon E3 v6 processors:
- Download KB4022726 from Microsoft Update Catalog website
- Extract the CAB file from the downloaded .msu file from step 1. Be sure to note the path where you stored the CAB file for use in step 3.
- Run the DISM /Online /Add-Package command to install the update: exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath: CAB file path from step 2.
Receive Proactive Updates: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriberโs Choice.
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice. For the latest information on this issue, read the Hewlett Packard Customer Advisory.
