HP's ML350p Server named SmallBizWindows Server of the Year!

Last September Microsoft introduced Windows Server 2012, available in four editions: Foundation, Essentials, Standard, and Datacenter. When choosing a server to pair with each edition of Windows Server 2012, there are many different HP ProLiant servers to consider. These servers have won many awards and prestigious titles, including recently winning the “Volume Server” category in the Channel Review News 2012 Annual Report Card Awards.

Today, wewant to help make the choice a little bit easier for you by telling you about 3 HP ProLiant Gen8 servers that  pair best with Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition. The servers we will discuss today are the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8, the HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8, and the HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8.

Before we start looking at these HP ProLiant Gen8 servers, let's take a minute to explain a bit about Windows Server 2012 Standard edition. As we said before, Standard is just one of the 4 Windows Server 2012 editions offered.

Windows Server 2012 Standard is ideal for physical computing, or lightly virtualized environments, offering users the full Windows Server functionality with 2 virtual instances. When considering server pairings, it is important to keep in mind hardware compatibility requirements.

For Windows Server 2012 the hardware compatibility requirements are:

  • a minimum 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor
  • a minimum of 512 MB RAM
  • a minimum of 32 GB disk space.

ML350e.jpgNow that you know a bit more about Windows Server 2012 Standard edition, let’s look at the first HP ProLiant Gen8 server, the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8. This server is a dual-processor tower platform built on the latest Intel Xeon E5-2400 processors with a unique architecture. This unique architecture, along with flexible deployment options, allows businesses to scale as needed to optimize their IT dollars. The ML350e Gen8 delivers the industry’s most powerful embedded management technology with HP Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO4), which allows businesses to manage the servers anytime from anywhere. Purpose built to deliver essential performance and allow for low cost expansion, the ML350e Gen8 also reduces the overall complexity of server employment and management, lowers overall cost of ownership, and delivers peace of mind with enhanced reliability, quick serviceability, and industry leading manageability.

If your server needs require a rack server, as opposed to a tower server, we recommend you consider the HP
DL360p Gen8. This server, built for performance, efficiency, and easier access, provides industry leading two-socket performance in a space saving 1U size and is ideal for any cloud solution. Like the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 server, the DL360p Gen8 also supports HP iLO Management Engine. With Gen8 enhanced serviceability and configuration flexibility, this server is ideal for general-purpose applications such as file/print or web, as well as dynamic computing workloads, virtualization, and cloud solutions.

The final recommendation for pairing with Windows Server 2012 Standard edition is the HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8.

This server, from HP’s blade family, offers users a unique blend of core density and a broad memory footprint in a half-height form factor while delivering price and performance leadership for virtualized and high-performance computing environments. The HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8 features Integrated Lifecycle Automation, an industry first, which provides embedded provisioning tools and system maintenance capabilities standard on all ProLiant servers and built using the industry-leading HP iLO Management Engine. Active Health tools, that run non-stop, and HP ProLiant reliability work to prevent application downtime.

In closing, when you are looking for a good server to pair with Windows Server 2012 Standard, we suggest you consider the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8, HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8, and the HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8. With such a wide variety of HP ProLiant servers, there is sure to be one to fit your customers specific needs!
