How to Move Individual Logical Drives in Array Configuration Utility for ProLiant Gen8 Servers

Javier Takimoto, HP Senior Software Engineer in the Software Management team responsible for Array Utility Configuration (ACU), introduces you to the Moving Logical Drives feature available for HP ProLiant Gen8 server’s Smart Array controllers managed through ACU.

This functionality allows you to take a logical drive in the Smart array controller and move it to a different array within the same controller. It is even possible to move the logical drive to a brand new array if enough unassigned physical drives of the right size exist in the controller. All this can be performed online with no interruption of access to the data by the operating system such as Windows Server.

The hardware and software requirements are as follows:

HP ProLiant Gen 8 Server

HP Smart Array P222, P420, P420i, P421, P822* or P721m*

A Flash-Backed Write Cache module with a battery or capacitor connected and fully charged

Smart Array Advanced Pack 2.0 license

ACU version 9.10 or later

*These controllers come standard with Smart Array Advanced Pack 2.0 license.

Watch Javier as he performs the Moving Logical Drives feature in the ACU.
