Re: Matchmaker Series: HPE & Microsoft– Part 4: Windows Server 2016 Essentials & ProLiant Se

For small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices, HPE OEM Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Essentials edition is a great option to pair with HPE Servers. Before we look at our server pairing recommendations, let's recap a bit about the Windows Server 2016 Essentials edition.

Windows Server 2016 is the cloud-ready operating system that supports customer workloads while introducing new technologies that make it easy for customers to transition to cloud computing when they are ready. While Windows Server 2016 Standard and Datacenter editions changed to a core-based licensing mode, Essentials edition remains with the processor based model of previous versions where one license covers one server with up to 2 processors and Server CALs are not required.

Hello,

I have an HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9 Server (840675-425) that i am trying to install Windows Server 2016 Essentials on. I get the following error:

"Windows Server 2016 Server Essentials not supported"

The server has 1 x 1 TB - SATA 6Gb/s - 7200 rpm and HP Dynamic Smart Array B140i.

Is there anything we need to do. Please assist.

Olebogeng Sedumedi :  If you have purchased the WIndows Server license from Hewlett Packard Enterprise you can contact HPE Support for installation assitance.

To contact HPE support simply locate the HPE Technical support phone number via the worldwide contact numbers list at hpe.com/contact.

In some countries, the Contract and Warranty support numbers are different. If you have an existing support contract use the “Contract” support number, you may need your Service Agreement ID (SAID) number. If you do not have a support contract use the “Warranty and Out of Warranty” support number.
