Meet the HP Power Supplies that support ProLiant Gen9 Servers

Xani

In this session of Coffee Coaching, Cole Humphreys, Manager of the HP Product Management Rack and Power Infrastructure team, tells you all about the HP Power Supplies that support HP ProLiant Gen9 Servers.

Power management is crucial to data center power provisioning and every component that supports the ProLiant server lends itself into supporting the power saving feature. For example, Windows Server 2012 R2 has a unique set of power management features that makes requests into the ProLiant system ROM firmware to set the appropriate processor clock frequency. There is also an innovation that HP and Microsoft developed which continues into the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2—Collaborative Power Control (CPC). CPC communicates with the OS and the HP ProLiant Power Regulator to gather information for choosing the appropriate performance level.

For the newest generation of HP ProLiant Rack and Tower Servers, HP created a new portfolio of power supply options in order to provide a balance of features and prices to complement the Gen9 servers:

To support HP ProLiant Gen9 Performance Servers, HP designed the HP Flexible Slot (or Flex Slot) Power Supplies with focus on power density, efficiency, and flexibility.  When compared to the Gen8 Common Slot Power Supplies, HP Flex Slot Power Supplies are 25% smaller- this reduced form factor gives your SMB customers more usable space inside the server to add additional server options that are critical in running IT infrastructure, web, business applications, and collaboration software on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2. In addition, HP Flex Slot Power Supplies provide up to 96% power efficiency with 80Plus Titanium-certified. And, they are easy to install—no tools required!

For HP ProLiant Gen9 Essential Servers, HP created the HP Entry-Level Power Supplies with a focus on value optimization, balancing features, and price. These Entry-Level Power Supplies offer an optimized set of features for the HP ProLiant Gen9 10 & 100 Series Rack and Tower Servers. These power supplies support redundant and non-redundant option configurations. For example, the HP 550W Power Supply is a non-redundant, Silver-certified 80 Plus power option (up to 89% efficiency) while the HP 900W/800W Gold Power Supply can be configured to support power redundancy in ProLiant servers that offer only a single power supply bay, providing additional protection against power loss (up to 92% efficiency).

Don’t forget, HP also provides the HP Power Advisor tool which can help your customers estimate their power requirements. Learn more about HP Power Supplies, HP ProLiant Gen9 Servers, and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, and be sure to join the Coffee Coaching community on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

Remember to encourage your customers to prepare and execute their upgrade and/or sustained engineering plans as early as possible for their HP Server Platforms and Windows Server Operating Systems.
