Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference Recap


Last week, more than 16,000 partners from all over the world met in Washington, D.C. to attend the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference. The event was filled with keynotes, breakout sessions, meetings, numerous networking opportunities, and many great announcements, all showing how Microsoft is investing in their partners. Microsoft has always worked to put partners first in their go-to-market strategy and this continues to be a priority in today's mobile-first, cloud-first world. If you were unable to attend WPC 14, here is a quick overview of some of the key topics covered during the week:  




Guiding partner transition to the cloud 

To help partners serve their customers in the cloud, Microsoft announced cloud integration into the Microsoft Partner Network with three cloud-focused competencies including a Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions competency as well as one each for Cloud productivity and Cloud Platform.  


Putting partners at the center of customer cloud adoption 

To meet the growing demand of Microsoft's cloud-based solutions, Microsoft is evolving their partner programs and licensing models to make it easier for partners and customers to purchase, deploy, and use Microsoft solutions.  


Connecting customers with partner solutions 

To help partners better reach and target small and midsized business prospects, Microsoft is introducing a new marketing initiative called ModernBiz. With the goal to help partners more easily drive awareness and demand in the US and worldwide, ModernBiz focuses on business issues and cross-product solution scenarios tailored to the specific needs of SMBs.  


HP at WPC and the HP Microsoft Windows Server 2003 End of Support program 

While Microsoft had many announcements for partners, HP also had a big announcement introducing a new program. This program, designed in conjunction with Microsoft, is aimed at helping channel partners with the task of helping customers migrate from Windows Server 2003. You have probably heard,Microsoft support for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2 will end July 14, 2015, which means the end of updates and patches, and a loss of compliance for any datacenter running the OS after this date. While there is no avoiding the need for change, this change does not have to be disruptive to your customers! HP has created a new program, in conjunction with Microsoft, to help reduce the complexity, time, and risk associated with migrating applications and infrastructure.  


Did you know that at least sixty percent of customers polled do not have a migration plan?Do your customers who are currently using WS2003 have a migration plan? If they do not, or if you do not know, this is the perfect time to get out and talk to them so you can help provide them a safe transition. HP services, support, and technologies provide opportunity for you to change out legacy systems and fully modernize your SMB customers’ environments. To help ease the transition from WS2003, the Windows Server 2003 End of Support Program offers a complete portfolio of IT solutions, industry-leading services, support, training, and financing to help transform and expand your customers’ business environments.
