SAPPHIRE NOW offers more than you think … if you know what to look for!

With SAPPHIRE NOW and the ASUG Annual Conference starting next week (May 17-19, 2016, in Orlando, Florida), now’s a good time to start planning what you intend to get out of the conference. For many folks, it’s a time to catch up on what’s new, find solutions for issues they’ve been unable to resolve, discover simpler, faster, easier ways to do things, or just network and rekindle old friendships. For me, personally, the opportunities arising from a conference like SAPPHIRE NOW goes way beyond that! Imagine yourself 5-10 years down the road. Ask yourself: “What will SAP software look like in my environment?”

2025 isn’t as far away as you think it is

SAP has clearly stated that by 2025, all SAP software will be running only on HANA, SAP’s in-memory database. That means no more DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server for SAP database storage. It’ll just be SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA One—HANA in the cloud—or the next generation of software, maybe S/5HANA, S/6HANA or something else. What does that mean for your business? If, like most companies, you operate on a 5-10 year roadmap, it probably means that it’s time to sit down and have a good, hard look at those SAP systems that run your most critical business processes.

Time to move on?

“But wait,” you might say. “Everything’s running fine on my SAP R/3—or SAP Business Suite—platform running on Oracle. Do you realize how much effort and disruption it’ll take to rip-and-replace?” Well, yes, it is going to take a lot of planning and effort. And a bit of pain. After all, SAP R/3 has been around since 1992, and even its replacement SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC) is more than 10 years old.

It’s a bit like replacing that old car. So many miles. So many memories. Does it really have to go? After all, you know all the nuances, perhaps hitting the dashboard to turn off a warning light! But, sadly, it does. Now’s the time to take advantage of new features; to get something that’s going to last for the next 10 years. New places to go. New memories to create. No more pounding on the dashboard! And - back to your SAP software - already there’s a huge gulf between the performance and capabilities of in-memory SAP HANA compared to Oracle 12c or Microsoft’s SQL Server 2014, and it’s just going to increase. In the digital economy, performance means time, and time means money. If you want to succeed in the digital economy, you need the speed and functionality of HANA. Data, analytics and decisions made in real time is a game changer!

So use your time at SAPPHIRE NOW to get to know more about SAP HANA, SAP S4/HANA, and SAP HANA One. But don’t just pay attention to the SAP software. There’s a whole ecosystem supporting SAP HANA with over 3,200 startups developing on the HANA platform. And then there’s HPE innovation—the engine that makes SAP deliver the business outcomes you’ve come to expect.

Only HPE delivers 12TB of in-memory SAP HANA computing

Imagine being able to take the entire printed collection of the U.S. Library of Congress—about 10TB of data—and put it all into memory of a single system at the same time! With the current industry standard sitting at just 6TB, HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA offers double that—12TB of in-memory computing—allowing you to process data at speeds beyond belief when compared to traditional databases.

As the big brother of HPE ConvergedSystem 500 for SAP HANA, HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA also includes 16 next-generation Intel x86 processors, world-class, high-availability storage, and integrated services and support. Packaged in a single workload optimized system, HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA is unrivaled in performance and scalability. Workloads that previously required hours to run can now be processed in seconds! Applications can’t go it alone - they need a platform that delivers their full capabilities!

HPE Integrity Superdome X: Your answer for SAP migration and x86 greenfield deployments

Commenting on another HPE platform—Integrity Superdome X—IDC stated[1]: “ … we believe that this platform may be the answer for the following SAP customer segments: those migrating from a Unix platform, those migrating from a smaller standard x86 system, and those contemplating a large, greenfield SAP implementation on x86.”

The paper states that performance, scalability, high availability, reliability, and running multiple instances in a single frame are “critical dimensions” for “highly mission-critical SAP implementations”. IDC went on to say “HPE Superdome X, which addresses these and other pressing customer needs through a massive scale-up x86 platform combining high performance and capacity with Unix-like RAS features and a partitioning technology that allows for exceptional platform flexibility.”
