The Unmatched Datacenter: HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8.

Customers  want to invest in an infrastructure that has the ability to adapt to a changing environment. The DL380p Gen8 is an unmatched data center investment that delivers increased performance, configuration flexibility, and enhanced management features. This server’s flexible configurations assures customers will receive optimal performance for today’s compute requirements, while also helping future-proof for the ever-changing compute needs of tomorrow’s datacenters.

The DL380p Gen8 has many outstanding features. This 2P 2U rack server offers the perfect solution for the dynamic compute requirements of growing small businesses and demanding data centers alike. With two times the memory capacity of the previous generation, this server can deliver a max memory capacity of 768GB of DDR3 Memory. In addition, HP’s conversion to the new HP Smart Drives enables more front-accessible drive bays, increasing the DL380p’s internal capacity by 33%, while the embedded P4201 Smart Array controller, designed to maximize data availability, performance, and capacity, helps deliver two times the performance.

There are many reasons customers will appreciate the DL380p. Customers can configure the DL380p with up to six full height PCIe slots, five of which support PCIe Gen3 providing double the bandwidth of the PCIe Gen2. In addition, this server will help customers reduce energy costs with the HP Common Slot Power Supplies providing a new level of efficiency and ENERGY STAR qualified server configurations.

To reduce customer downtime, The DL380p has HP’s Active Health System, a major server management design enhancement. In the case of a failure event, this always-on diagnostic monitoring system enables five-times faster failure identification and resolution. In addition, HP’s exclusive Smart Socket Guide lowers downtime that may result from improper installation or replacement and protects both system board and processor from damage.

The DL380p Gen8 offers a greater number of internal hard drive bays thanks to HP’s new Smart Carriers, which are slimmer than previous carriers. In addition, HP has modified the lighting on the carriers to help administrators get more information from a quick glance. The blue indicator light can be engaged from iLO so technicians can quickly see when a specific drive has failed. Any drives that are part of the in trouble RAID array will light up their “Do Not Remove” LEDs on the ejection buttons to warn the technician that they are protecting the array. Furthermore the “Online/Fault” LED is substantially bigger making it easier to see, and is surrounded by a ring of activity lights that show how frequently the drive is being accessed.

Continuing with the trend of giving customer more options, customers have a greater variety of internal storage options with the DL380p Gen8 and can choose from 8SFF, 8LFF< 12LFF, or 25SFF models. Recently added to the lineup, the Intel® Xeon® E5-2600v2 series of processors make use of the new 1866MHz DDR2 memory. This product family offers increased performance, improved security, advanced efficiency, and is ideal for demanding workloads.

Several other new features were recently added as well including a new “Easy Install” rail kit that mimics the installation process of the G7 rails. HP is also offering two new Smart Array controllers, the P430 and P431. These stand-up controllers have faster and larger memory that significantly boosts their performance.
