Support on builtin SCSI for storage device

I have connected a storagetek l-20 storage device (with two HP ULT-2 tape drives) to my HP 9000 server. It is running HP UX 11.11.
The server doesn't detect the storage device. But it does detect the tape drives in the storage device.
Anyone can respond as to what might be the issue here.
Im right now using the in-built SCSI. Is ther any limitation in using the in-built SCSI
