Apollo vs Rack Server Positioning and Differentiation

Hello There,

Hope everyone is well & keeping safe !

I would request your inputs in one of the cases where we have positioned Apollo r2800 with XL170 as option-1 & DL380 as option two. Since this is purely an HPC Cluster environment, what are the key differentiators and the talking points that one should highlight to the customer and establish the right value proposition of Apollo solution stack vs rack server. A comparison or a thorough analysis will be really appreciated.

Much Regards-K.S.

Re: Apollo vs Rack Server Positioning and Differentiation

HPE Apollo 2000 Gen10 System is a dense, multi-server platform that packs incredible performance and workload flexibility into a small datacenter space, while delivering the efficiencies of a shared infrastructure. It is designed to provide a bridge to scaleout architecture for traditional data centers, so enterprise and SME users can achieve the space-saving value of density optimized infrastructure in a cost-effective and non-disruptive manner. The Apollo 2000 Gen10 System is a density-optimized, 2U shared infrastructure chassis for up to 4 ProLiant XL170r Gen10 and up to 2 ProLiant XL190r Gen10 independent, hot-plug servers with all the traditional data center attributes - standard racks and cabling and rear-aisle serviceability access. A 42U rack fits up to 20 Apollo r2000 series chassis accommodating up to 80 servers per rack.

The major difference is the Apollo 2000 Gen10 System is a density-optimized, 2U shared infrastructure chassis for up to 4 ProLiant XL170r Gen10 which means 4 server in 2U chassis.

Whereas in DL380 Gen10 server 2U space consumed in a rack for one server only.

Re: Apollo vs Rack Server Positioning and Differentiation

Thanks AmRa, great insights.

Also do we have performance or cost comparison between the two ? If so would be great if you can share the same.
