What does one hour of unplanned application downtime mean to your organization? US$5,600 per minute on average, according to the Gartner analyst group.(1) And if you work for an online brokerage firm, the impact can be more than $100,000 per minute! According to ESG, 49% of organizations have applications that can only tolerate downtime of 15 minutes or less.(2)

It’s clear therefore that uncompromising application protection to meet service-level expectations and protect business productivity is an absolute necessity. But to achieve this, it’s necessary to rethink data protection to ensure that it covers the entire spectrum of threats—allowing for more frequent recovery point objectives (RPOs) and enabling increasingly stringent recovery time objectives (RTOs) to be met, all while reducing data protection cost and complexity.

An innovative, modernized solution to this challenge is provided by HP StoreOnce Recovery Manager Central software that integrates HP 3PAR StoreServ primary storage with HP StoreOnce Backup systems to provide a converged availability and flat backup service that augments traditional backup approaches.

Combining the performance of snapshots with the protection of backups, StoreOnce Recovery Manager Central (RMC) enables fast, efficient, reliable and simple protection for your business-critical applications. StoreOnce RMC helps ensure application availability by protecting and recovering data from any conceivable failure—including human errors, data corruption and hardware platform outages.

Ensuring complete protection for your applications

Application downtime can be fatal to a business and can come from a variety of sources from human error to natural disasters. Data protection is a continuum that must cover a wide range of scenarios.

HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage is designed to help minimize operational impact by delivering planned resilience. Full hardware redundancy is built into the system, mitigating all single points of failure. When appropriately configured, HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage is capable of greater than “five nines” or 99.999% availability from a hardware perspective. This is reinforced by autonomic and proactive error checking, plus software features that deliver seamless failover/failback to help ensure complete system resilience, even when the unexpected happens.

To deliver the comprehensive data protection that business-critical applications require, 3PAR systems leverage HP StoreOnce Backup as a second line of defense.   StoreOnce protects applications running on 3PAR against file loss or application corruption beyond the oldest snapshot. StoreOnce also protects applications against storage platform outage.

Application and storage integrated data protection

HP StoreOnce Recovery Manager Central (RMC) software integrates HP 3PAR StoreServ primary storage with HP StoreOnce Backup systems. This provides application-managed data protection that speeds and simplifies data protection for virtualization data on a 3PAR array—while bypassing traditional backup server-based processes.

Fast, efficient, simple, reliable data protection

StoreOnce RMC v 1.0 delivers these benefits:

  • Rapid online recovery –This allows VMware administrators to create hundreds of non-disruptive, application consistent virtual machine (VM) snapshots and initiate rapid online recovery.
  • 17 x faster backup and 5 x faster restore of snapshot data with flat backup(3) – RMC Express Protect feature enables the flat backup of VM snapshot data from HP 3PAR to StoreOnce, independent of backup server software. Every multi-stream VM backup completes at the speed of an incremental, but is stored as a synthetic full backup, which makes VM recovery faster and more efficient.
  • Less cost and complexity with flat backup – RMC Express Protect flat backup feature streamlines and simplifies the backup architecture required for protecting and recovering VMs in VMware environments. All backups are deduplicated using award-winning StoreOnce technology, reducing backup storage requirements by up to 20x on average.
  • Application managed data protection for 3PAR StoreServ and VMware environments – VMware administrators can monitor and manage snapshots, backup and recovery directly and seamlessly from within HP OneView for VMware vCenter.

  • Reduce risk exposure – VM backups stored on HP StoreOnce are self-contained, fully independent volumes. These can be restored back to the original or a different HP 3PAR array in the event of a disaster or physical problems with the production storage environment. This level of data protection cannot be achieved with snapshots alone.

Is StoreOnce RMC supported on Hyper-V?

HPEStorageGuy

@RPMCanes - I don't believe we support Hyper-V today but it was mentioned as a future when we first announced RMC. If I get more information that I can share publicly, I will.  Thanks for asking!
