Build VMs on demand across hybrid cloud: HPE GreenLake for HCI

Go faster with self-service agility. Learn all about HPE GreenLake for HCI, the service specifically designed for building VMs across hybrid cloud, on demand.

By Chuck Wood, Senior Product Marketing Manager, HPE Storage and Hyperconverged Infrastructure

The complexity of today’s IT brings many challenges. IT organizations may find themselves dealing with mixed workloads, virtual machines (VMs), multiple data centers, public, private, and hybrid clouds, and applications with complexHPE GreenLake for HCI-blog-HPE20201110001.jpg dependencies. That’s a long list of challenges. The reality is, while most of these workloads are not in the public cloud today, public cloud use is accelerating.

When speaking with customers, I often hear that deploying and operating enterprise workloads across these varied environments can be a time-consuming, error-prone, and manual process – which is both inefficient and costly.  Layering apps that are cloud-native by design alongside the existing enterprise set adds even more complexity and risk. The preference today is toward an agile, automated cloud experience.

The ubiquitous cloud?

The market size for cloud solutions, including hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), is quite large. According to IDC, Worldwide Dedicated Cloud Hardware, including HCI appliances, is forecast to grow from ~$18 billion in 2020 to $33 billion by 2025, 11.9% CAGR. What’s more, total cost of ownership, product configurations for various deployments, and ease of management and implementation are top criteria for on-premises cloud.1

As CIOs and IT managers shift from a cloud-first to a cloud-everywhere strategy, they’re seeking to bring the cloud operational experience and as-a-service delivery to on-premises, co-located, and edge environments with flexibility to leverage the power of hybrid cloud. Organizations with virtualized environments of all sizes seek to simplify operations with a cloud operational experience, and they also need to speed time-to-market for their business. But challenges remain across these environments that include security, cost, data control, and managing complexity.

Introducing HPE GreenLake for HCI

In response to growing customer demand for these services, HPE is expanding the HCI experience by combining HCI and hybrid cloud VM management for greater agility in hyperconverged solutions. With HPE GreenLake for HCI, you can build your self-service hybrid cloud on demand where you need it – in your data center, across colocation sites, at the edge, or in the cloud. HPE GreenLake for HCI delivers VMs as a service with cloud-based management and self-service agility. It eliminates complexity with a unified cloud service for VM to infrastructure management, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances.  And it’s flexibly consumed, which means you only pay for what you use.

Simply put, HPE GreenLake for HCI accelerates your hybrid cloud environment with self-service agility everywhere.  As part of the broader HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform, this new hyperconverged solution helps customers modernize their businesses.

Here are some of the benefits and capabilities.

One-stop management – From a single console for managing VMs and infrastructure, including Amazon EC2 instances, HPE GreenLake for HCI simplifies management of your virtualized workloads. Agile self-service is enabled to give you control.  Automated provisioning of VMs and applications works from within the HPE GreenLake control plane.

Faster time-to-value – SaaS-based cloud management streamlines operations via blueprints to accelerate on-premises and edge deployments. This new solution abstracts the control and management plane from the underlying infrastructure to HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform. Multi-tenant, multi-cluster, and multi-site aware, it provides simple cloud-managed infrastructure. This means you have everything you need at your fingertips to globally deploy, manage, upgrade, and optimize your VMs and infrastructure – anywhere in the world.

Self-service as-a-service experience – Shift from owning data infrastructure to simply accessing and utilizing it without heavy upfront costs, flexibly consuming services on demand. Easily and quickly get the HCI resources you need with a workload-optimized, as-a-service solution delivered to you. Customers gain a simplified, self-service experience with rapid attribute-based quoting and ordering based on the VM resources needed. While some VM-based managed services are not suitable for all needs, HPE GreenLake for HCI is a standardized offer and enables self-service via automation to simplify operations and transform faster — while maintaining control of your data on premises.

Get time back with automation – Industry-leading AI-managed, self-service resources solve Day 2 and beyond issues faster. Plus 86% of issues are resolved automatically, giving your team time back to focus on business.2 Automation extends to the public cloud with provisioning to Amazon EC2 instances.

Built for business-critical apps – The solution is highly resilient with 99.9999% data availability guaranteed and leading performance for on-premises workloads.2 HPE GreenLake for HCI leverages HPE compute, networking, and storage innovations with modern hypervisors and automation to support mixed virtual machine workloads at scale. It’s ideal for business-critical apps that need to be always on and always fast. And it meets business-critical and general purpose app requirements for privacy, data location, and compliance.

Harness hybrid cloud data protection and VM mobility – To help with business continuity and managing risk, the service goes beyond resiliency with extra VM-centric data protection, rapid restore and VM mobility for disaster recovery. Seamless data mobility helps ensure your hybrid cloud is protected.
