Cloud backup made simple with HPE Cloud Bank Storage

HPE is announcing general availability for HPE Cloud Bank Storage. Learn how simple and efficient cloud backup for long-term retention, archive and disaster recovery can benefit your organization.

HPE Cloud Bank Storage_blog.jpgLow-cost, high-capacity object storage in public, private or hybrid cloud continues to gain traction as a solution for the challenges of explosive data growth, strict retention policies and a pressure to reduce costs.

A recent ESG analyst survey[1] reports that when it comes to leveraging the cloud in specific ways to support cost-effective IT modernization, long-term retention and disaster recovery represent two of the most frequent uses for cloud storage today. This is in large part due to the operational agility, efficiency and appealing cost structure that a secure offsite data repository provides.Cloud Data Protection Strategy HPE.jpgToday we are simplifying cloud data protection with the announcement of General Availability for HPE Cloud Bank Storage[2]. As shown in this new video, Cloud Bank Storage enables new cloud capabilities for HPE StoreOnce. It lets you seamlessly, securely, and cost-effectively move backup data to the public, private, hybrid cloud or on-premises object storage—enabling long-term retention, archive and reliable disaster recovery that is simple and efficient.

Now, let’s take a closer look at how HPE Cloud Bank Storage can help your organisation leverage the economics, agility and flexibility of the cloud for modernized data protection.

Cloud Bank Storage is an extension of StoreOnce Catalyst technology, the backup interface of choice for control and performance. This immediately cloud-enables your existing backup and enterprise applications[3] without the need for a separate gateway appliance or any additional physical infrastructure or management overhead.

It seamlessly integrates with the backup application for a single point of management. Simply set your data movement policy, configure your target cloud and automatically move data from StoreOnce to the cloud for long-term retention.

You can also choose the cloud service provider that best fit your unique requirements. The solution supports a variety of public and private clouds including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft® Azure and Scality RING.

Cloud Bank Storage provides 3PAR customers with self-service cloud data protection with less cost and complexity. Storage admins can set up protection policies at the time of volume provisioning, enabling end-to-end data protection from the data center to the cloud—managed through one simple console.HPE Cloud Bank Storage.jpg

HPE Cloud Bank Storage leverages intelligent deduplication to send, store, and retrieve only unique data in the cloud. This highly efficient data transfer significantly reduces time, cost and network bandwidth for cloud storage.

It is also highly scalable—enabling the protection and retention of more than 100 PB[4] of backup data in your cloud of choice starting at one tenth of a cent per month[5]. This is 20x lower cost than existing public cloud services!

In addition, with HPE Cloud Bank Storage archive feature, “cold data” can be moved to even more cost-efficient object storage for archiving or extended retention.

This way, you can automatically move backup data through different storage tiers as data ages, including replicated arrays, on premises backup systems and cost-effective cloud archive storage.

Cloud Bank Storage lets you mitigate risk with simple, encrypted and reliable cloud disaster recovery. It enables all data to be encrypted for secure transmission and storage in the cloud.  Additionally, backup data written to Cloud Bank Storage is independent of the host StoreOnce System.  In the unlikely event of the StoreOnce System being unavailable or a site failure, you therefore have the flexibility to recover data from the cloud to any HPE local or cloud-based StoreOnce system, anywhere in the world.

Bottom line

HPE Cloud Bank Storage provides cost effective, scalable cloud storage for HPE StoreOnce Backup systems. As a result, you can leverage the economics, agility and flexibility of the cloud for long-term retention of backup data for regulatory or governance compliance or disaster recovery, while continuing to use on-premises performance optimized StoreOnce systems for short term operational recovery for fast restore.
