HPE StoreEver LTO-8 media now back in business
HPE is pleased to announce that HPE LTO-8 media is now available to order.
We know itโs been a long time since the supply of LTO-8 media has been available, around the world and with any tape vendor. Now we are pleased to let you know that weโre once again open for business when it comes to accepting orders for HPE LTO-8 media. Shipments are expected to recommence in September 2019.
All issues affecting production and supply have been fully resolved, but while LTO-8 media is still ramping production, our number one priority is to fulfill any backlog of existing orders before returning to normal supply levels in Q4 CY19. Rest assured, HPE will be among the first to receive LTO-8 media supply.
We are encouraging all HPE customers to place LTO-8 media orders as soon as possible so that we are able to manage the demand for orders efficiently and expedite delivery where we can.
If media is needed for LTO-8 drives now, LTO-7 or LTO-7 Type M alternatives can be purchased instead. If youโre not sure what LTO-7 Type M is, itโs a new LTO-8 feature, enabling an LTO-8 drive in a tape library to write 9TB native on a cartridge originally manufactured as LTO-7 Ultrium media. This type of cartridge is called an LTO-7 Type M cartridge. Type M cartridges are identified by using an automation bar code label ending with the last two characters โM8โ. LTO-7 Type M cartridges represent the most cost-effective high-capacity option for new and existing LTO-8 device users at this moment. For more information about LTO-7 Type M media, please download the white paper providing a technical overview of the main characteristics of LTO-7 Type M media.

HPE is a committed partner to the tape industry and has been for more than 50 years. HPE continues to achieve impressive milestones, like last month, where we celebrated our 100 millionth cartridge being sold. Not to mention, HPE StoreEver customers around the world yield better data center performance and save more money, when integrating a tape tier into their existing environment to take care of their long-term archive and compliance requirements. HPE StoreEver tape drives and libraries offer incredibly low cost of ownership, long-term data storage for as low as $0.003 p/GB for life1 and impressive scalability, reliability and performance.

Lastly, thank you for your patience during this time, we canโt wait to get you all back up and running with HPE StoreEver LTO-8 solutions.
1 Assumes 2.5:1 compression ratio for the life of the cartridge. Based on current audit of LTO-7 Type M media pricing (April 2019) at $68.87 per 22.5 TB
