How HP 3PAR StoreServ delivers for your TDI environment

As adoption of SAP HANA grows, customers and systems integrators are increasingly choosing Tailored Data Center Integration (TDI) for HANA deployments. TDI offers maximum flexibility and investment protection while preserving existing IT processes. HP 3PAR StoreServ All-Flash and converged flash arrays are an ideal choice for TDI, delivering the performance, scaling, availability, advanced data services and TCO that SAP HANA enterprises demand.

Today’s 3PARThursday news: The all-new 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and 20000 are the latest 3PAR StoreServ arrays to be certified for SAP HANA TDI, giving you the most competitive storage offerings for your TDI environments. And 3PAR StoreServ All-Flash leadership for TDI continues—with solutions that are a fraction of the price of the competition, while offering greater efficiencies, high availability and data services.

HP 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and 20000 now certified for SAP HANA TDI

8000J.jpgSAP HANA workloads demand bandwidth. The all-new 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and StoreServ 20000 offer unprecedented bandwidth: 24GB/second and 40GB/second respectively. This allows a 3PAR StoreServ 8200 with as few as eight SSDs to scale to four SAP HANA server nodes. Maximum HANA server scaling for the 8000 family is 20 nodes; maximum scaling for the 20000 family is 48 HANA server nodes. The 8000 array models are cost optimized, high performance arrays, with a modular footprint, low power consumption and allow co-racking with servers, perfect for a single rack TDI solution.

The 20000 is a scale-optimized array offering extreme performance for data intensive workloads20000J.jpg such as HANA, greater port scalability and larger capacity for greater application consolidation. Both the 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and 20000 arrays support multi-tenancy for sharing the array with HANA and non-HANA workloads.

Another key contributor to 3PAR StoreServ performance for HANA is the ability to turn off inline deduplication. For SAP HANA inline dedupe on any array is a performance hindrance. In addition to performance, customers deploying HANA need high availability, resiliency and Tier-1 data services. 3PAR StoreServ offers a single set of Tier-1 data service across midrange, enterprise and performance-optimized all-flash arrays. For the robustness that HANA environments demand, 3PAR StoreServ is designed for 99.9999% availability. Additional Tier-1 features include Virtual Copy snapshots for near instant backup and recovery and QoS, for managing 3PAR StoreServ arrays in multi-tenant HANA and non-HANA environments.

HP 3PAR StoreServ 8450 All-Flash clobbers the competition for SAP HANA TDI

Although 3PAR StoreServ was the first to certify all-flash storage for HANA, we did not stop there. Now on our third-generation all-flash for HANA, 3PAR StoreServ beats the competition in delivering value, efficiencies, availability, scalability and data services.

  • 3PAR StoreServ 8450 vs. XtremIO 6 X-Brick (1): The 3PAR StoreServ 8450 and XtremIO 6 X-Brick both scale to 20 SAP HANA server nodes. The 8450 accomplishes this at less than one-sixth the price of the XtremIO solution. The list price for the 8450 solution is $603K compared to $4,150K for XtremIO. Additionally the 8450 takes one-quarter of the rack space, one-quarter of the power and one-quarter of the cooling energy at one-tenth the weight of the XtremIO array. Beyond the numbers 3PAR StoreServ beats XtremIO in the areas of scalability and resiliency with mature, proven data services. 3PAR StoreServ allows for selective use of in-line deduplication key for HANA workloads.
  • 3PAR StoreServ 8200 vs. Pure FA-405 (2): Both of these arrays support four HANA server nodes. Note that the Pure Storage //mX0 models were not used for comparison as they are not certified for HANA. The 3PAR StoreServ 8200 requires only eight SSDs at a list price of $116K. This is one-quarter of the list price of the FA-405, $432,000 with the required 44 SSDs. 3PAR StoreServ also offers key Tier-1 features such as QoS for mixed HANA and non-HANA workloads. 3PAR StoreServ also offers linear scalability with easy in-box upgrade to support growing HANA environments. Lastly, 3PAR StoreServ allows for selective use of in-line deduplication.

Bottom line—why 3PAR StoreServ for SAP HANA

SAPlogo.jpegFor us, SAP HANA is not an afterthought. Not only is the entire 3PAR StoreServ family is certified for HANA offering superior scaling, ease of management, availability and data services at a fraction of the price than the competition.

  • HP is the first vendor to certify an all-flash array for HANA (HP 3PAR StoreServ 7450).
  • 3PAR StoreServ All-Flash has the highest HANA scaling (48 nodes—HP 3PAR StoreServ 20850).
  • We are the only vendor to certify arrays for HANA at product launch (HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000c, 8000 and 20000 families). It takes our competitors up to a year to certify.
  • HP is the first and so far only vendor to certify an array (HP 3PAR StoreServ 8000) for HANA HWC-ES 1.1, SPS10 HANA check tool.
  • We are actively working to improve HANA performance (HP developed the SLES kernel 3.0.101-0.18 XFS performance enhancements).
  • HP is the only vendor who can offer a full solution for HANA: servers, networking, storage and backup—in either TDI or appliance offering.

Look no further than 3PAR StoreServ for your SAP HANA deployment.
