Scale-out NAS with HPE and Qumulo

A couple of months before Discover, a colleague in storage asked me if we could do something on the blog with Qumulo. My first words were: Who is Qumulo. What got my attention was hearing that DreamWorks Animation is using Qumulo and HPE Apollo in their digital production process. In this post, I'll share with you what we are doing with Qumulo.

It starts with HPE Complete

Qumulo is now part of the HPE Complete program. Here's a short description of HPE Complete from its web Qumulo HPE Webcast.pngpage: HPE Complete is a resource enabling the purchase of best in class third party branded products with the added reliability of HPE’s interop assurance for a complete validated solution, all via one HPE purchase order.

Frequent ATSB contributor Kate Davis has a post about HPE Complete from last week.. Other storage partnerships in the program that Kate talked about are Veeam, SpectraLogic, and Zerto.  So check it out.

What is Qumulo about?

You can learn more about the company on their website,  Here's a paragraph I found about their solution, called Qumulo Core:

Qumulo Core is a modern scale-out storage system designed from the ground up for the new era of multi-petabyte data scale on premises and in the cloud. Available on density-optimized HPE Apollo 4200 Servers, the solution allows you to store up to tens of billions of files with scalable throughput while providing real-time visibility and control for file systems at petabyte scale in less physical space. Address your growing unstructured data footprint with maximum storage efficiency using the low cost, the enterprise-grade solution provided by Qumulo and HPE.

At HPE Discover, I had a brief discussion with Joel Groen from the Qumulo product management team. If you're looking at competitive solutions from vendors like EMC Isilon, check out the video.

Lastly, I want to call out that there's a webcast on June 22 (that will be available on demand as well) on BrightTalk that will be hosted by HPE and Qumulo.  In order to watch BrightTalk webcasts, you do need to have an account but it's free so join the discussion live or if you can't join on June 22, you can watch the on-demand replay anytime.
