The Future of Data Protection Is Already Here. It’s Just Not Very Evenly Distributed.

“The future is already here – it’s just not very evenly distributed.”

These are the words of William Gibson, the cyberpunk science fiction author of the seminal novel “Neuromancer” and originator of the term “Cyberspace.” This quote came to mind when I reviewed the recently published Gartner Magic Future of Data Protection_blog.jpgQuadrant for General Purpose Disk Arrays. Gartner’s annual “go to” report for vendors, partners and end users provides independent evaluation of HPE’s position in the General Purpose Array Market. It also recognises HPE for completeness of vision among the major storage vendors.

I believe the Gartner research, based on a detailed vendor and product survey that included interviews with multiple customers, is an important demonstration that the HPE 3PAR Integrated Data Protection value proposition is proven with customers and analysts alike. This is significant because many customers make their vendor “short list” decisions based on the vendor’s position in the Magic Quadrant.

I believe the Gartner report is also illuminating in the way it illustrates William Gibson’s point about an unevenly distributed future. The world of application availability and protection is changing very fast.

To paraphrase Gibson, “The future of data protection is already here – it’s just not very evenly distributed from a vendor perspective!”

So let’s take you on a brief journey into the future of data protection by showing you what’s happening with HPE 3PAR Integrated Data Protection today.

Evolving data protection architectures for business-critical applications

The evolution towards storage integrated data protection is one of the disruptive waves that is engulfing the data protection market. Many IT organizations are considering or actively moving to a modern infrastructure-centric model, where data management and protection are tightly integrated with underlying infrastructure and applications.

This application-aware, storage-integrated data protection architecture is delivered by integrating primary storage and backup appliances with a simple software management solution, common data services and automation between devices enabling seamless data movement.

Data protection thus becomes a function of primary storage, eliminating the need for additional backup infrastructures such as media servers. Application owners can now control their application’s data protection directly from within their preferred native interfaces. This makes protecting data less intrusive on application processing, simpler and less expensive to manage and faster to complete.

3PAR Integrated Data Protection: Protecting your assets and ensuring a resilient data centre

HPE 3PAR RMC is leading the way in the evolution of data protection from traditional backup server based architectures to modernised application-centric, storage integrated availability and protection.  HPE Recovery Manager Central federates HPE 3PAR arrays and HPE StoreOnce systems to provide a converged availability and backup service optimized for flash environments.

It’s augments traditional backup approaches, combining the performance of snapshots with the protection of backups.

As a result, RMC offers 23x faster backup with no backup impact on the application server and lowers cost and complexity by eliminating need for a backup application.

I believe HPE’s position as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant tells the world what our customers already know – that 3PAR Integrated Data Protection is the future of application availability and protection available today. No other vendor is better positioned to protect your IT and digital assets and ensure a resilient data centre than HPE.

This is a very interesting article. Very informative and educational. Todays technology and data awareness is not that important to others. Everyone can have fair use of technology if all are educated fairly. Great read.
