Thumbs up: students offer feedback on our 3PAR StoreServ Level III course

KB2J.jpgBy Kelly Baig, Channel Manager for Education Portfolios, HP   @KellyBaigAtHP

A few weeks ago, we ran our first live session of our new Level III training course for HP 3PAR StoreServ storage administrators. We anticipated a good interest level because we knew that all-flash and performance tuning would attract attention. Now we’ve received some outstanding feedback and responses that I’d like to share with you.

After the worldwide HP education team runs a course, we survey the students to get their immediate feedback and reactions. It helps the team here to improve our course offerings. The 3PAR Level III course received these scores:

  • Instructor – 5 out of 5, an outstanding result for our course instructor, John Scully
  • Classroom environment – 4.5 out of 5
  • Courseware – 4.44 out of 5
  • Learning effectiveness – 4.75 out of 5

Here’s what some of the students had to say

“Giving customer examples to bring real-world scenarios to the class is a big deal. John does that well. Also John really does care that you learn and are getting value from the class.”

“[John is] very knowledgeable about the current 3PAR OS and hardware model.”

“Virtual class rooms are always run smoothly by HP.”

“This course definitely assumes you know how to do the basics… which is needed. Some people may need a refresher that might help. Not sure how some of that would impact the 3 days.”

We also had a student post a review on LinkedIn:

We listen—and take your feedback to heart

We did get some comments from students on how to make the lab work better—with less setup effort for the students. Good feedback, which we have taken back to the team.

As the instructor of the course, John also shared his thoughts and impressions. “I think most [of the students] found the performance and rebalancing (which brings in the upgrade module) the most interesting,” he said. “I got a lot of questions as well on adaptive flash cache.”

For a new course, John was surprised at how well it went. But he agreed that “we do need to fix some errors or issues with a lab or two.”
