Performance Policies to Use with Microsoft Exchange

Hi

I have a few datastores containing only exchange database and others datastore for logs only.  I'm using vmdk on vmfs for all servers

What is  the best performance policies to use ESX5 (for the logs I have created one base on ESX5 except for caching which is disabled)or Exchange 2010 and exchange 2010 logs for logs ; I know that both are not using the block size

Some saying to use esx5 and other exchange 2010; support tells me to use ESX5 but some other support engineer told me to use exchange 2010 if I'm sure that only exchange data will be present into the vmdk

thanks

Re: performance policies to use with exchange

Hi Francois,

If you are only storing Exchange database VMDKs within the datastore then you should use the Exchange performance policy. This will lower metadata usage, and will become even more useful later on this year with some of the features due for release.

If you are mixing workloads within a single datastore then you should use the ESX5 policy.
