No NCM but still connects to volume

I have an v6.0 ESXi host without Nimble Connection Manager installed, and it can still connect to Nimble volumes - can someone explain how/why?  This is iSCSI too.

Thank you

The NCM isn't required to connect to the array. The NCM does add value for VMware and Windows installations.

These are links to NCM from 2.0 but they still apply.

Re: No NCM but still connects to volume

Mark,

ESXi will create default iSCSI sessions, connections and paths.  If you want to increase the number of iSCSI connections automatically, or set the nimble preferred path selection policy, or you have a multi-array pool (a pool with 2 or more arrays in it, volumes are striped across multiple arrays), NCM will direct IO from the ESXi hosts to the appropriate array, thereby effectively increasing the throughput from the host perspective.

Thanks,

Mamata
