ALB load balancing broadcast/flood all ports?

We have 2*E2510-24G with a few VLANs and port 1+2 is configured as Trk1 with all the VLANs. We notice when we have a Linux server connected to a port on each switch and bond the NICs using ALB (Adaptive Load Balancing) that during traffic load, the switch seems to broadcast/flood all the ports with the traffic. If we configure it using Active/Passive instead, the problem goes away.

We notice this because we SNMP monitor traffic on all ports and during copying of large files to/from this server, even ports where VERY low-traffic servers are connected, receive 100+ Mbit traffic.

We have seen some discussions where ALB can behave strange when connected to different switches.

Is this normal behaviour? Comments?

Hello,

We got the same issue but we are using Lefthand 12.6.

JonB, what switch are you using ?

FYI: This is the StoreVirtual OS.

I'm not really sure since this was 6 years ago but looking back at my emails we contacted HP support. What we did in the end was to update the network switches (to W.14.65?) . We might also been doing some configuration on the flow control.

This series is retired now, but you should contact HP support with this strange behavior.

Be sure to be on the latest firmware version before contacting support.
