Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I'm looking after HP5406zl switch in SMB (K.15.09.0012, ROM K.15.28). Up so far it's been good as gold, but I have returned from foliday this morning and I've noticed a flashing amber fault and DIMM LED. I assumed that it might have something to do with the second hand module that I've installed just before going off (J8702A), that I've picked up on ebay. As such I have reset the module and let it auto test. The flashing amber 'fault' LED has disappeared, but DIMM is still blinking. I had a quick look on the manual to see what it means, but couldn't find anything meaningful, so I've decided to use CLI to check the log. There is a long list of related to port B3 being blocked by STP followed by now online, but the one that really concerns me is this:
W 03/05/17 16:37:20 00567 ports: port B19 PD Other Fault indication.

My questions is: should I be concerned about this? – considering that B slot is where all our VLANS are managed and all APs are connected to? I have already started building the redundancy on different slots just in case, but perhaps you gents have seen something like this before?

Re: Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
Recently fixed a POE issue and this one sounds similar, can you try upgrading the sw to K.16.02.0017 ?

Re: Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
I have never upgraded firmware on HP switch before, is it okay to jump from 15.09.0012 to 16.02.0017? What's the rollback option?
---
OK I've done some research and from what I can gather, moving from 15.09.0012 bootROM K15.28 requires the following steps:
1. Update to K.15.15.xxxx (bootROM K15.30)
2. Update to K.15.17.xxxx
3. Update to K.16.02.0017
Looking at the web interface I conclude that the firmware can be uploaded as the primary image, which is what I intend to do at each stage.
Is this right?

Re: Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
Yes, the firmware can be uploaded to primary flash or secondary flash either from Web UI or CLI [using SFTP or TFTP or USB].
Note: At each upgrade stage, when it upgrades ROM this takes a little longer and please don't power off the switch during ROM upgrade process.

Re: Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
Ok, I have completed the incremental firmware upgrade up to K16.02.0017. The flashing amber DIMM LED is now solid green, but the PoE LED has started to blink in amber. This is somehow consistent with the log records up to version 15.18.0015, where the same error message regarding slot B was listed as per my original post. The latest firmware 16.02.0017 however, does not list slot B as faulty. I have reconfigured another module as a backup, so in the worst case scenario I can move all APs etc to another module, but this requires additional configuration on the firewall, therefore I would prefer to avoid this if possible. Any ideas?

Re: Amber DIMM LED & Slot B Unrecoverable fault on PoE controller
OK, I have a fault indicator LED flashing in amber now, but the standard log -r does not show anything related to PoE. Any ideas or should I open a new ticket with the helpdesk?
Many thanks,
