For your Switch (HP ProCurve 5412 zl known as HPE 5412 zl) start on its Product Support page (here) and look at Product's various Manuals (set the filter view to "view all"): download and consult this one (sheet 18 of 134, Page 1-8 and onwards).

Specifically for LEDs status there is also this web page.
